Dr. Scharff with Senegalese Students after Graduation from Mobile Application Development Bootcamp
|
On sabbatical, Dr. Christelle Scharff spent academic year 2008-09 in Senegal implementing her vision for social change through technology. Her activities were supported by a Sustainable Vision Grant from the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA).
With input from computer science students at the University of Thiès, she and the students developed and implemented mobile computer applications for entrepreneurial women interested in expanding the market for traditional Senegalese crafts.
In order to sustain and perpetuate her initiatives, Dr. Scharff taught faculty from seven universities across Senegal so that they, in turn, could pass their knowledge of mobile computer programming on to their students.
