Unless otherwise indicated, CLE programs will take place on the Pace Law School campus in White Plains, NY in the Robert B. Fleming Moot Court Room in the Joseph and Bessie Gerber Glass Law Center. Click here for directions to the campus. CLE programs held at Pace Law School will be cancelled if Pace University closes due to inclement weather conditions. The purpose of this program is to demonstrate Pace University’s Experiential & Referential Integrity with respect to computer-based evidence collection and submission. Essentially, we will address two (2) questions:

  1. “What is computer forensics and how is it done?” and
  2. “What evidence can I get out of a computer (camera, cell-phone, etc.) that I didn’t know was there and that I can use in court?”

Landlord Tenant Law and Practice§
Date: Wednesday, November 4

Faculty:  Judy Studebacker, Esq., Senior Housing Attorney, Westchester/Putnam Legal Services; Hon. Adam Seiden, Associate Judge, City Court of Mount Vernon; and William Permutt, Esq, Scarsdale
This program will be an overview of Landlord Tenant Law And Practice.  The Landlord’s Attorney will discuss interviewing the client, commencement of a nonpayment proceeding by a landlord in an ETPA building.  The Tenant’s Attorney will discuss interviewing a tenant, development of defenses, discussion of solutions to related problems; SSI for children, sources of assistance to pay rent arrears, assuring that repairs are made to apartment, settlement discussions.  Panelists will discuss the do’s and don’ts for attorneys appearing in landlord/tenant court; court conference between attorneys.  Judge Seiden will discuss conference of witnesses, discussion of the evaluation of proof and credibility of witnesses.

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Hearsay but were Afraid to Ask§

The hearsay rule is among the most elusive and mysterious rules in all common law. 
For attorneys in busy practices, however, it is a rule that they must have at their fingertips.  Many attorneys and not a few judges lack the ability to use the rule accurately and effectively.  This program is designed to refresh and solidify your understanding of this crucial rule, and to learn how to use it in active practice.

CLIMATE CHANGE CLE SERIES

This one of a kind CLE series will help you build your practice and remain current in changing times. Registration will be available soon through the Pace Center for Continuing Legal Education at (914) 422-4062. The cost will be $35 per program or $75 for the series of 3; each program offers 2.5 hours of New York CLE credit.

  • Climate and Corporate Practice
    This course covers the role that corporations play in the global economy and their role in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. Discussions will center on the steps that corporations are taking to mitigate climate risk and to integrate climate considerations into their domestic and global business portfolios. The unique role of outside and in-house lawyers in climate counseling will be discussed, as will securities disclosure issues related to corporate CO2 emissions and transactional aspects of emissions trading.   9/3/09 Judicial Institute, 6-9 pm
  • Climate and Insurance
    This course examines the ways that global climate change has affected the insurance industry. Key topics will include the nature and purpose of insurance; insurance trends; and types of environmental insurance policies for global climate change.   • Update on New York State's Efforts to Address Climate Change in 2009 (State and Regional Climate Initiatives):
    Speakers from both the public and private sector will address ways that New York State is (and should be) addressing climate change and sustainability.  Topics to be covered include: upcoming renewable energy projects, regional transportation improvements, zoning initiatives, the cap-and-trade program created by the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and relevant litigation and court decisions.
