Barbara L. Atwell, Law, had her article “Obesity, Public Health, and the Food Supply,” published in Indiana Health Law Review, Vol. 4, No. 1 (2007).

 

Daniel Baugher, PhD, Andrew Varanelli Jr., PhD, Ellen Weisbord, PhD, and Alvin Hwang, PhD, all from Management and Management Science, were inducted into the Decision Science's Institute (DSI) Hall of Fame in 2007. They were inducted in recognition of articles that they had written for the publication. DSI considers those inducted into the Hall of Fame to be members of an elite group of researchers who have enabled it to be the premier professional organization dedicated to the science, practice, and teaching of business decision making.

 

Janetta Benton, Fine Arts, had her book Arts and Culture published in 2008 by (Prentice Hall Pearson). Her essay “Marginalia” was published in the exhibition catalogue, Set in Stone: The Face in Medieval Sculpture for the exhibition of the same name held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, September 26, 2006–February 18, 2007. Benton delivered four lectures––“The Forbidden City in Beijing,” “The National Palace Museum in Taiwan,” “The Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an and the Shaanxi History Museum,” and “The Shanghai Art Museum”—in China as the lecturer from the Metropolitan Museum of Art for “China: Horizons along the Yangtze River,” October 7–23, 2007. Benton presented two illustrated subscription lecture series (twelve lectures) “Art History 101” providing a survey of masterpieces from pre-history to the present, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in the spring of 2008.

 

Abbey Berg, PhD, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Constance Knapp, PhD, and James Stenerson, PhD, Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology, hosted a poster session for their paper “Mining Your Own Faculty and Staff for Best Practices” at the Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Network in Higher Education Conference held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in October 2007.

 

Karen A. Berger, PhD, Marketing, had her article “Walmart and Vlasic Pickles,” published in the Business Case Journal, Vol. 15, Issue 1 (Winter 2007/2008). She also had her articles “Menu Foods: Product Safety Crisis,” co-authored with Martin T. Topol, PhD, Marketing, published in Annual Advances in Cases (2007). Berger’s “Menu Foods: A Communications Dilemma,” article won second place in the Annual Direct Marketing Education Foundation Casewriters’ Competition in Chicago. Illinois in October 2007.

 

Patricia Brock, PhD, Center for Urban Education, presented "The Pace TLQP [Teacher-Leader Quality Program Professional Development] Program: Customized PDs for High-Risk, Under-Resourced Inner City School Teachers” at the   Annual Meeting of the American Education Research Association in NYC in March 2008.   She also had  "Lead Us into Temptation: The Big Business of Cyber-cheating" published in the Journal of Social Work Values and Ethics, Vol. 5, No. 1.

 

Susan Cappelmann and Gina Monteleone, Physician Assistant Program, presented the workshop “Conflict Resolution: Navigating Your Role as a PA Student” at the New York State Society of Physician Assistants fall conference in Verona, New York in October 2007.

 

Christine Clayton, Education, presented “Social Justice in Teacher Education: A Qualitative Content Analysis of NCATE Conceptual Frameworks From Mine to Yours: Teaching Ownership in the Middle School Science Classroom” at the 2008 American Education Research Association in New York in March.

 

Constantine Coutras, PhD, Computer Science, presented “Legal Issues in Grid Collaborative Environments” co-authored with Irene Kafeza, attorney, and Eleanna Kafeza, Athens University of Economics and Business, at the Second International Workshop on Trusted Collaboration 2007 held in White Plains, New York in November. The paper was published in the conference proceedings.

 

Jean M. Covino, DHSc, Physician Assistant Program, presented the lecture “Diagnosis and Treatment of Abnormal Uterine Bleeding” at the annual conference of the American Academy of Family Practice Physician Assistants in Las Vegas, Nevada in November 2007.

 

Bridget J. Crawford, Law, had her article “Post-Mortem Rights of Publicity: The Federal Estate Tax Consequences of New State-Law Property Rights,” co-authored with Mitchell M. Gans and Jonathan G. Blattmachr published in Yale Law Journal’s Pocket Part, Vol. 117 (2007).

 

Florence Denmark, PhD, Psychology, received the Raymond Fowler Award for Outstanding Contributions to American Psychological Association, presented to her by former CEO of APA Ray Fowler, PhD, and 2007 APA President Sharon Brehm, PhD, in August 2007 at the 2007 APA Convention in San Francisco, CA. Denmark was elected by The National Academies of Practice (NAP) as a distinguished scholar-member of the NAP in November 2007 in Arlington, Virginia at which the National Academies of Practice inducted new members from the ten health care professions. Denmark, APA’s Main Representative to the United Nations, attended the Committee on International Relation in Psychology (CIRP) meeting in March.   She is currently the President-elect of the Division of Social Issues.

 

Joseph DiBenedetto, Accounting, delivered a presentation on “Unaccountable Accounting Revisited,” at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Business and Behavioral Studies in February. The presentation focused on the current inconsistencies in newly-issued financial accounting statements of the Financial Accounting Standards Board.

 

Jane Dolan, Nursing, presented as part of a panel that discussed: “Recruitment In Times of Crisis” at the annual Graduate Nursing Admissions Professionals Conference in Grapevine, Texas in March. Dolan was also appointed chair-elect for the 2010 GNAP conference to be held in Orlando, Florida.

 

Martha Driver, PhD, English, had her essay “Inventing Visual History: Re-presenting the Legends of Warwickshire,” published in Essays in Manuscript Geography: Vernacular Manuscripts of the English West Midlands from the Conquest to the Sixteenth Century, edited by Wendy Scase (Brepols). Driver’s book The Image in Print, by the British Library in 2004, was reviewed in Renaissance Quarterly Vol. 60, No. 4 (Winter 2007). Driver was invited to serve as a trustee of the American Foundation for the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh.

 

Peter M. Edelstein, Legal Studies and Taxation, hosted two demonstration classes in Law 101 for high school students from Iona Prep School and New Rochelle High School in February 2008. He is a columnist for Scholastica, the Pforzheimer Honors College monthly publication and he was the inaugural guest speaker for KIN: Colony of Delta Sigma Pi, co-educational business fraternity/sorority in February 2008.

 

Brian Evans, EdD, Education, had his article “Student Attitudes, Conceptions, and Achievement in Introductory Undergraduate College Statistics” published in The Mathematics Educator, Vol. 17, No. 2 (2007). Evans presented the article “Math through Democracy? An Expected Mathematics Result to Use in the Classroom” at the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics (PCTM) annual conference in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania on November 2007. Evans presented “Student Attitudes, Conceptions, and Achievement in Introductory Undergraduate College Statistics” at the annual meeting of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), Salt Lake City, Utah in April. He also co-presented “Math Links: Building Learning Communities in Urban Settings” at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in New York in March 2008.

 

Lee Evans, EdD, Performing Arts, had the short third movement of his original work “Celebration Suite for Piano” featured on WQXR-FM (96.3 FM) February 20th, on David Dubal’s program “Reflections from the Keyboard: The Piano in Comparative Performance.”

 

James Gabberty, DPS, Information Systems, participated on a panel “How to Setup a Web Site” sponsored by Smart Money magazine. A segment featuring Gabberty discussing “Get on the Web” appeared on www.SmartMoney.com as of January 3, 2008.

 

Matthew Ganis, DPS, Chemistry and Physical Sciences, co-authored “Commercial and Business Opportunities and Problems of Virtual Worlds” with D. McNeill (IBM) that was published in Communications of the Association for Information Systems on Virtual Worlds in March. Gannis also co-authored with D. McNeill, titled “My Avatar is Agile. Is Yours? Using Scrum to Manage Projects in Virtual World Development” was published in the Cutter Consortium/IT Journal in April.

 

Bennett L. Gershman, Law, had his article “Tankleff Case Needs Special Prosecutor, Not Spota,” published in Newsday. His article “No Guaranteed Right for Individuals to Own Firearms,” was published in Journal News.

 

Roy J. Girasa, PhD, Legal Studies and Taxation, had his article “Cyberterrorism: Types, Causes, and Methodologies to Combat It,” published in the International Journal of Computing and e-Systems, Vol. 1 (January 2008). In 2007, he had the articles “The Stakeholder Movement and the Social Responsibilities of Corporations: A Comparative International Perspective” and “Not-for-Profit Entity Activities and Income: Challenges to Continuing Tax-Exempt Status,” which he co-authored with Richard J. Kraus, PhD, Legal Studies and Taxation, published in the North East Journal of Legal Studies. Girasa presented the article “Comparative Analysis of Select Provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act With The European Union’s Eighth Directive,” co-contributed by Michael Ulinski, PhD, Accounting, at the Economics and International Research Conference. Girasa became president of The International Group of e-Systems Research and Applications.

 

Orlena Gotel, PhD, Computer Science, presented “Working Across Borders: Overcoming Culturally-Based Technology Challenges in Student Global Software Development” co-authored with Christelle Scharff, et al., at the 21st Conference on Software Engineering Education and Training–CSEET 2008, held in Charleston, South Carolina in April. The paper was published in the conference proceedings.

 

Claudia Green, PhD, Management and Management Science, presented the “Parati Green Map Project” at the American Council on Education Internationalizing Interdisciplinary Scholarship and Community Engagement in Washington, DC in January.

 

Jill I. Gross, Law, had her article “McMahon Turns Twenty: The Regulation of Fairness in Securities Arbitration,” published in University of Cincinnati Law Review Vol. 76, No. 2 (2007).

 

Darren Hayes, DPS, Technology Systems, gave an invited talk titled “Wondering How Vista’s Increased Security Can Work for You and Your Students?” at the Course Technology Conference 2008 held in Nashville, Tennesse in March. He also presented “Windows Vista: Challenges and Opportunities for Computer Forensics Investigations” co-authored with Shareq Qureshi (MS/CS) at the High Technology Crime Investigators Association meeting held on the Pace downtown campus on March 27 and spoke to “Computer Forensics in Your Introductory Computing Classes” at the Prentice Hall Technology Seminar held in Uncasville, Connecticut in April.

 

Peter Hoefer, PhD, Management and Management Science, read his paper “Analyzing the Association Between Student Evaluation of Teaching and Student Grades at a Collegiate School of Business: An Update,” co-authored with John Byrne, PhD, Management and Management Science, and Jack Yurkiewicz, PhD, Management and Management Science, at the 2007 Annual Meeting of the Decision Sciences Institute in November 2007.

 

Farrokh Hormozi, PhD, Department of Public Administration, was a senior economist on the panel RealShare Net Lease Conference, where he presented on “The Numbers Behind the Trends” at The Marriott Hotel in New York in April 2008.

 

Kara Imm, Education, presented “Mathematics Teacher Knowledge and Professional Development at the 2008 American Education Research Association in New York in March.

 

Janet A. Johnson, Law, had her article “Symposium on the Miller Commission on Matrimonial Law: Editor’s Overview,” published in Pace Law Review 27 (2007).

 

Anthony Joseph, PhD, Computer Science, presented “Forecasting Aggregate Sales with Interest Rates Using Multiple Neural Network Architectures” co-authored with Maurice Larrain, PhD, Finance, and Eshwar Singh (MS/CS '07) and “Adaptive Methodology for Predicting the Upper Bound in WWW Traffic” co-authored with Claude Turner, PhD, of Bowie State University, at the Annual Artificial Neural Network in Engineering Conference (ANNIE) 2007 held in St. Louis, Missouri in November. The papers were published in the conference proceedings. Joseph also participated in The Coalition to Diversity Computing (CDC) Academic Workshop for Underrepresented Participants held in College Station, Texas from November 30–December 2. Joseph co-authored “Forecasting Real Inventories and the Anomaly of Money Illusion” with M. Larrain, Lubin, and E. Singh ’07, published in Business Economics in January 2008.

 

Grant Kretchick, Performing Arts, played a leading role in “I Knock at the Door” and “Pictures in the Hallway” at Theater in Three in New York in December 2007.

 

Nancy Krucher, PhD, Health Sciences, presented a poster in April at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research entitled, “Stimulation of Rb-dependent and p53 Independent caspase mediated apoptosis by PNUTS siRNA in colorectal cancer cells” with undergraduate Biology major Gabriel De Leon '08. 

 

Vishal Lala, PhD, Marketing, presented “Intergenerational Influence in Consumer Deal Proneness,” co-contributed by Robert Schindler, PhD, Rutgers University, Camden and Colleen Grussenmeyer-Corcoran, U.S. Vision Inc., at the Association for Consumer Research Conference in Nashville, Tennessee in October 2007. His article “International Experience and Expatriate Selection: A Decision Maker’s Perspective,” for which Ibraiz Tarique, PhD, Management and Management Science, and Jean-Luc Serdin, Essex Business School, were contributors, was presented at the Academy of International Business Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana in June 2007.

 

James Lawler, DPS, Information Systems, and John Molluzzo, PhD, Information Systems, presented “Integrating Issues of Location-based Privacy with Mobile Computing into International Information Systems Curricula” at the Information Systems Education Conference (ISECON) held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in November 2007. Lawler also presented “Integrating Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) Methodology into Information Systems Curricula,” co-authored with Hortense Howell-Barber of HbiNK, at ISECON. The papers were published in the conference proceedings. Lawler had an article titled “Methodology for Educating Information Systems Students on the New Paradigm of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) Technology” published in the Information Systems Education Journal, Spring 2008.   He also served as Chair of the Second International Conference on Computing and e-Systems held in Hammamet, Tunisia from March 17–19 where he presented   “Services Science and Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) as Fields of Study,” and “E-commerce Applications in Belgium and the European Union,” co-authored with J. Nasdrovisky   Both papers were published in the conference proceedings. In addition, he presented at two conference panel discussions and one workshop.

 

Joseph Lee, PhD, History, is a visiting scholar of the Faculty Resource Network at  New York University in Spring 2008 and a member of the international editorial board of The Indian Journal of Asian Affairs. He gave a talk on Hong Kong at Prudential’s Intercultural Seminar in  New York on January 2, 2008, and attended the International Conference on “Classics for an Emerging World” at Columbia Univeristy, January 19–20, 2008. His articles “The Rise of China: An Introduction” and “The Sino-American Encounter in the Third World: An Update” were published in a special issue which he edited for The Indian Journal of Asian Affairs Vol. 20, No.1 (2007). He also had a book chapter published: “The Geopolitics of the North Korean Nuclear Crisis: An Historical Perspective,” in Proceedings of the 8th Annual Conference of the Hong Kong Sociological Association, edited by Siu-Keung Cheung, Harold Traver and Li Xiuguo (Hong Kong: Department of Sociology, Shue Yan University, 2007). His two book reviews, “The Fundamentalist Movement Among Protestant Missionaries in China, 1920–1937, by Kevin Xiyi Yao,” and “Axial Civilizations and World History, by Johann P. Arnason, Shmuel N. Eisenstadt and Bjorn Wittrock,” were published in Mission Studies Vol. 24, No. 2 (2007).

 

Picheng Lee, PhD, Accounting, had “Is Earnings Fraud Associated with High Deferred Tax and/or Book Minus Tax Levels?” co-authored with Asokan Anandarajan, PhD (New Jersey Institute of Technology), Michael Ettredge, PhD (University of Kansas), and Lili Sun, PhD (Rutgers University), published in Auditing: A Journal of Theory and Practice, Vol. 27, in May. Lee has been invited to join the editorial board of the International Journal of Accounting and Information Management.

 

Raymond H. Lopez, PhD, Finance and Economics, had the case “Whistling Bird Winery,” which Lopez co-authored with Armand Gilinsky Jr., PhD, of Sonoma State University published in the Journal of Finance Case Research, Vol. 9, No. 1 (Summer 2007). Lopez also presented his case Sula Vineyards, co-authored with Armand Gilinsky Jr., PhD, and Jigar Shah, at the Annual Conference and Workshop of the North American Case Research Association (NACRA) in Keystone, Colorado in October 2007. A summary of the case was published in the conference proceedings.

 

Mercedes A. McCormick, PhD, Psychology, presented “The Practice of Psychology: Lessons Learned from Adopting an International Psychology Curriculum” at the Eastern Psychological Association in Boston in 2008. She recently joined Richard Velayo, PhD, to host the Posters 101 Workshop sponsored by the New York State Psychological Association held at Pace in April. McCormick is also coordinating the Pace Annual Psychology Conference to be held at Pace in early May. McCormick was elected as the President-elect of the Academic Division for the New York State Psychological Association for 2008–2009.

 

Jillian Mcdonald, Fine Arts, has her work exhibited in two group shows “Dress Code,”from January 10–February 9 at LMAK Projects, New York, New York, and “No Wonderland In Winter,” from January 18–February 18, at A.M. Richard Fine Art, Brooklyn, New York. Mcdonald’s solo show, “Fanatic,” is on view at 1708 Gallery in Richmond, Virginia from February 1–28, and highlights her work from the past five years.

 

Susan Merritt, dean, Seidenberg School, organized and led a panel on “Identifying, Mentoring, and Developing Women Faculty in the Computing Sciences” at the National Faculty Resources Network Conference––Advancing Women and the Underrepresented in the Academy held in Charlotte, North Carolina in November. Participants included Bernice Houle, PhD, associate dean of the Seidenberg School; Jean Coppola, PhD, Information Systems; Pauline Mosley, DPS, Technology Systems, and Catherine Dwyer, lecturer, Information Systems. Dean Merritt was also invited by IBM to participate on a panel titled 21st Century Skills for the Globally Integrated Enterprise held in New York City in October 2007.

 

Pauline Mosley, DPS, Computer Science, was publicly recognized and presented with a certificate of appreciation by Carol Franks-Randall, PhD, superintendent of the Elmsford Schools, and James Henson, PhD, Vice President of the Board of Education, in early April for establishing a robotics program in the Elmsford School District.

 

Barbara Mowder, PhD, Psychology, A.E. Yasik, and A. Tiwari, Bowder authored “Parent Behavior Questionnaire: Ethnic and Cultural Perspectives,” a poster presentation at the annual meeting of the National Association of School Psychologists, New York, in March, 2007. Mowder was invited to present “Working with Parents: Description and Utility of a Parent Assessment Measure,” at the Fifth Annual Early Childhood, Los Ninos Conference at Fordham University in April 2007. Mowderled a People-to-People delegation to St. Petersburg and Moscow in November 2008. In February 2008, Mowder chaired an APA accreditation site visit to Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. Mowder presented to the Psychologists in Training (PIT) program of the New York Department of Education in April 2008 on understanding and working with parents.

 

Weihua Niu, PhD, Psychology, with Grigorenko, E.L., Jarvin, L., and Preiss, D., Niu authored “Is There a Standard for Standardized Testing? Four Sketches of the Applicability (or Lack Thereof) of Standardized Testing in Different Educational Systems,” which was published in Extending Intelligence: Enhancement and New Constructs (2007 by Lawrence Erlbaum Associates). “Individual and Environmental Influence of Chinese Creativity” in Journal of Creative Behavior, Vol. 41, No. 3; with Zhang, J.X. and Yang, Y., “Deductive reasoning and creativity: A crosscultural study,” in Psychological Reports (2007); and “Western Influence on Chinese Educational Testing System,” in Comparative Education Vol. 43, No.1.

 

John R. Nolon, Law, had his book Land Use and Community Development: Cases and Materials published (with Patricia E. Salkin and Morton Gitelman). Nolon also had the articles “Climate Change, Zoning and Transportation Planning: Urbanization as a Response to Carbon Loading,”  Real Estate Law Journal Vol. 36 (with Jessica A. Bacher); “Disaster Mitigation Through Land Use Strategies,” Environmental Law Reporter Vol. 37; “Real Estate Law Review: Creating a Local Environmental Law Program,” Real Estate Law Journal Vol. 36; “Zoning, Transportation, and Climate Change,” New York Zoning Law and Practice Report Vol. 8; “Year in Review: 2007’s Most Significant Land Use Cases,” New York Law Journal, Vol. 5 (with Jessica A. Bacher); and “Municipal Lobbying: Regulations May Affect Land Use Practitioners,” New York Law Journal, Vol. 5 (with Perry M. Ochacher).

 

Charles North, English, Pace Poet-in-Residence, received a 2008 Grant to Individuals Award, poetry category, of $25,000 from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts.

 

Randi Priluck, PhD, Marketing, had her article “Classical Conditioning and Celebrity Endorsers: An Examination of Belongingness and Resistance to Extinction” published in the Psychology & Marketing Journal in February.

 

Yvonne Rafferty, PhD, Psychology, had her article “Children for Sale: Child trafficking in Southeast Asia” published in the official journal of the British Association for the Study and Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect: Child Abuse Review Vol.16. Her article “The Impact of Trafficking on Children: Psychological and Social Policy Perspectives” was published in Child Development Perspectives, the official journal of the Society for Research in Child Development Vol. 2, No. 1.

 

Kathleen Roche, Nursing, was appointed Chairperson for the Northeast Consortium of PA Programs at the Physician Assistant Educational Association (PAEA) conference in Tucson in October 2007. Roche is responsible for the consortium meetings of all PA Programs from Maine to New Jersey and organizes and plans the committee meetings on various topics for the programs—from PA program curriculum, public policies, administrative issues, and ARC-PA (Accreditation Review Commission on Education Review Commission) standards.

 

Roger Sayre, Fine Arts, had his work, “Sitting and Flight Series” exhibited in photo l.a., part of the 17th Annual International Los Angeles Photographic Exposition, January 11–13, 2008.

 

Christelle Scharff, PhD, Computer Science, was the principal investigator and recipient of a grant from the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance in the amount of $47,198 in support of promoting Sustainable Technology-based Entrepreneurship for the Senegalese Market. She also presented “Keeping Software Engineering Education Up-to-date with Globally Distributed Software Development and Delivery,” at the 12th Annual National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance – NCIIA meeting held in Dallas, Texas in March.

 

Namchul Shin, PhD, Information Systems, presented “The Impact of Information Technology Innovation on Firm Performance” at the invitation of the Center for Research on Information Technology and Organizations held at the University of California at Irvine in November 2007.

 

Sotirios Skevoulis, PhD, Computer Science, presented a workshop titled “NSF Teaching Formal Methods Tool Demonstration” at the Informatics Education Europe Conference held in Thessaloniki, Greece from November 30–December 1, 2007.

 

Merril Sobie, Law, had his article “A Law Guardian by the Same Name: A Response to Professor Guggenheim’s Matrimonial Commission Critique,” published in Pace Law Review Vol. 27 (2007).

 

Leslie Soodak, PhD, Education, co-authored a book chapter with E. Erwin titled, The evolving relationship between families of children with disabilities and professionals: A reflection on the past 30 years, published in Education for All, edited by T. Jimenez & V. Graf (John Wiley & Sons, 2008). She also presented “Teaching about Teaching Students with Severe Disabilities” at the TASH: Equity, Opportunity and Inclusion for People with Disabilities, Annual Conference in Seattle in December 2007.

 

K. Mark Sossin, PhD, Psychology, presented a workshop, “KMP Contributions to Working with Children on the Autism Spectrum,” with Professor Susan Loman of Antioch New England Graduate School at the 42nd Annual Meeting of the American Dance Therapy Association. Sossin recently published two articles co-written with Jan Charone-Sossin, PhD, Assistant Professor of Education, entitled “Embedding co-regulation within therapeutic process: Lessons from development” and “Twists in the road on the developmental path toward co-regulation: Navigating one’s way when many reliable markers are absent as with autism spectrum disorders” both in The Journal of Infant, Child, and Adolescent Psychotherapy (Vol. 6, Issue 3). At the Annual Spring Meeting of the Division of Psychoanalysis of the American Psychological Association, Sossin joined Phyllis Cohen, PhD, and Beatrice Beebe, PhD,   on a panel titled “Children playing with a background of loss: Development and clinical inferences gleaned from the World Trade Center Project.” Sossin presented the paper “Young Children Coping with the Loss of their Fathers on 9/11: Implicit and Explicit Processes in Dyadic Play.”

 

Michael Szenberg, PhD, Finance and Economics, had his book Franco Modligliani: A Mind Never at Rest, co-authored with Lall Ramrattan, PhD (University of California, Berkeley), published in January 2008. His book Distressed U.S. Industries in the Era of Globalization, co-authored with Ramrattan, was published in 2007. He had 20 essays, co-authored with Lall Ramrattan, published in the International Encyclopedia of Social Sciences, 2nd edition, in 2007. He also had his articles “Paul Samuelson and the Dual Pasinetti Theory,” co-authored with Lall Ramrattan, published in The American Economist in the fall of 2007 and “The Influence of International Trade on the Environment,” co-authored with Ramrattan, PhD, published in the Journal of Environmental Assessment Policy and Management, in June 2007.

 

Lixin Tao, PhD, Computer Science, led a seminar titled “Enterprise System Integration:  Status and Challenges” at the invitation of the School of Business, Public Administration and Information Sciences and the Computer Science Club of Long Island University, Brooklyn campus on November 26, 2007.

 

Robert G. Vambery, PhD, Marketing, had “How Technological Determinism Shapes International Marketing,” co-authored with James Gabberty, DPS, Information Systems, published in the International Business and Economics Research Journal in January 2008. He also presented on “Transparency versus Reality,” at the Conference on Strategic Investor Relations and Financial Stakeholders’ Communications in London, England, in January 2008. Vambery participated in the Carnegie colloquium on “Trade Imbalances,” where he contrasted the opportunities for nations to engage in or alternately avoid practicing ethical behavior based on whether they are enjoying substantial trade surpluses or suffering substantial trade deficits in New York City in December 2007. He also presented “Ethics in Global Business,” at the 5th Annual Conference on Advance Financial Reporting: Sophisticated Delivery of Financial and Non-Financial Performance to Internal and External Stakeholders in Geneva, Switzerland in September 2007.

 

Richard Velayo, PhD, Psychology, is the most recent recipient of the New York State Psychological Association’s Wilhelm Wundt Award for Outstanding Research Contributions to Academic Psychology. Along with Oliva, J., and Blank, D., Velayo co-athoured “Using the Internet: A Call Internationalize the Psychology Curriculum,” which was published in International Psychology Bulletin, Vol 12, No. 1.At the 16th Annual Pace University Psychology Conference in New York in April 2008, Velayo presented along with Ghuznavi, N., Moseley, T., Kirsch, C., and Whisnant, F. on “Effect of Textual Cue Type and Emotional Tone on Perception Towards Artwork.” Velayo presented “Goals and Learning Outcomes in an Internationalized Psychology Curriculum: An Update from APA” at the 2008 Convention of the Eastern Psychological Association in Boston, Massachusetts. At the same conference, he was a panel presenter in a workshop titled “Becoming More Involved in International Psychology: Why and How?” Along with Tan, V., Velayo presented “A Critique on the Design of Effective Multimedia Presentations: Tips that Help” at the 36th Annual Hunter Psychology Conference, New York in May.

Xiao-lei Wang, PhD, Education, co-authored the article “Responding to children’s everyday transgressions in Chinese working-class families” in the Journal of Moral Education, Vol. 37, No. 1. She also presented the paper “Acquiring Chinese, English, and French as First Languages” at the 2008 CAERDA International Conference in New York in March 2008.

Michele Zacarrio, PhD, Psychology, spoke about “An Integrated Approach to Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing: Enhancing Clinical Care” as part of an all-day colloquium at NYU Medical Center in May.

 

Dianne Zager, PhD, School of Education, presented a full-day pre-conference workshop on Evidence-Based Practices for the Arkansas State Council for Exceptional Children Conference in Hot Springs, Arkansas on November 14, 2007. Zager co-authored with Carol Alpern, PhD, Dyson College, the paper “Addressing communication needs of young adults with autism in a College-based inclusion program” published in Education and Training in Developmental Disabilities Vol. 42.
