Influenza: On Alert at Pace

Influenza: On Alert at Pace

Flu season is upon us. Pace’s Health Centers on both our New York and Pleasantville campuses are well prepared to manage an expected increase in the number of cases this fall. We ask your help, as parents, to do what you can to ensure that your son or daughter stays healthy.

What You Can Do

Remind your student to:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds

  • Cough and sneeze into a tissue or crook of arm

  • STAY HOME from school if feeling sick, and stay away from people who are sick until they are better

  • Visit the University Health Center or call their own healthcare provider for advice

  • See www.nyc.gov/html/doh and www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu  for further recommendations

  • Check the Pace Web site www.pace.edu/H1N1Flu  regarding any news that might affect classes, events or the university as a whole

  • Pay attention to official e-mails from the Pace University administration regarding H1N1

What Pace Is Doing

  • Educating students on how to stay healthy through various media vehicles, including our Web site www.pace.edu/H1N1Flu

  • Requiring all students, faculty or staff who develop flu-like symptoms to go home and stay home until they are have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever suppressant medications

  • Providing assistance to help students self-isolate in their dorm rooms when they can’t go home

  • Working with students who become ill to catch up with their school work

  • Avoiding penalizing students who cannot attend class due to illness

  • Working closely with the New York City and Westchester Departments of Health should an outbreak warrant consideration of quarantine

  • Keeping the Pace community updated with information in the case of an outbreak.
