2016 – 2017 Timetable
Friday, April 15, 2016: Information Session on Tenure and Promotion and Workshop in New York City from 9:00-noon.
Friday, May 27, 2016: All candidates for promotion and tenure are required to submit a brief letter of intent to the Dean of their College/School with copies to their Department Chair and the Office of the Provost.
Monday, June 6 – 9, 2016: The Academic Portfolio Workshop will be held on the Midtown Campus.
Thursday, June 30, 2016: Candidates should provide a list of internal and external evaluators and references, developed with the consultation of the Dean, and to be received in the office of the Dean of the College/School. External evaluation letters are strongly encouraged (3 confirmed to be sent at minimum) requested by Dean, Dept. Chair or designee. The deadline for receiving the external and internal letters of evaluation is Friday, September 30, 2016 in the Provost Office.
On or before Friday, September 2, 2016: All candidates for promotion and/or tenure should send their FACT sheet to the Dean of their College/School with a copy to the Office of the Provost.
On or before, Friday, September 30, 2016: Department TAP Committee reviews the candidate’s dossier and submits a report by September 30 to the school representative to pass along to the College or School TAP Committee. Departmental Chairperson gives an independent recommendation to the Dean.
On or before, Friday, September 30, 2016: All letters of evaluation for promotion and/or tenure (internal and external) are due in the Provost Office and forwarded to the CDFPT.
On or before Monday, October 3, 2016: Departmental Tenure and Promotion (TAP) Committee deliberates and votes, and submits its recommendations to the School Tenure and Promotion (TAP) Committee with a copy to the Dean.
Monday, October 31, 2016: College or School TAP Committee reviews the candidate’s dossier and submits a report by October 31 to the school representative to pass along to the CDFPT Committee.
On or before Friday, November 11, 2016: School Tenure and Promotion (TAP) Committee deliberates and votes, and submits its recommendations to the Dean.
Tuesday, November 22, 2016: Candidates (if needed) may self-nominate and/or may make last minute revisions.
On or before Thursday, December 1, 2016: TAP (Departmental, College/School, Senior Colleague, and/or Individual) Committee recommendations for promotion and/or tenure, written report and Fact Sheets are due in Office of the Provost for transmittal to CDFPT (uploaded to ePortfolio). The written report should provide reasoning on the tripartite indicators and vote counts. A minority report might also be submitted. Dean submits their recommendations to the Provost Office.
On or before Thursday, December 1, 2016, 5:00pm: Final eDossiers are completed and submitted to the Provost Office. An Addendum can be submitted for materials relevant to your tenure and/or promotion (e.g. accepted publications, presentations, and awards) that occurred after the December 1, 2016 deadline.
On or before Friday, December 9, 2016: Self-nominations are due in Office of the Provost for transmittal to CDFPT.
On or before Thursday, December 15, 2016: Organizational meeting of CDFPT is held; Chairperson, Secretary, and two campus based Liaisons to CDFPT-Appeals are elected at the Organizational meeting.
January 3-20, 2017: Council of Deans and Faculty on Promotion and Tenure (CDFPT) deliberates and votes. Council chair summarizes votes and recommendations. Committee Report due to the Office of the Provost within one week of Committee Meeting, no later than January 27, 2017.
The CDFPT communicates its recommendations to the Location (New York City and Westchester) Faculty Councils and the Provost Office. The Provost Office sends a notification to candidates not recommended for tenure or promotion, to allow preparing for an Appeal which is due thirty (30) calendar days from the date that the notification is sent.
At the February 2017 Location Council Meetings: Location Councils vote upon recommendations; recommendations forwarded to the Provost.
February 2017: The Provost reviews the recommendations of the CDFPT and Location Faculty Councils and forwards them to the President together with his/her own separate recommendations. President/Provost review dossiers, taking into account the votes and recommendations at all previous levels of consideration.
Within thirty (30) calendar days after nominee is sent written notification of the CDFPT decision by the Provost Office (“Appeal Date”): Deadline for appeal to the President through the Office of the Provost.
Within fifteen (15) calendar days of Appeal Date: Appeals Committee begins review of appeal(s).
Within forty-five (45) calendar days after Appeal Date: Appeals Committee recommendation(s) submitted to President and the candidate(s).
Within fifteen (15) calendar days after receiving the Appeals Committee’s written recommendation: President issues decisions on appeal(s) and makes a final recommendation to the Board of Trustees.
The Board of Trustees considers and votes on the President’s recommendation(s), usually at the next board meeting. Successful candidates are officially notified before the following academic year convenes.
*There is no exception granted to an individual to extend deadlines.
