Mary Fader and Manhattan Edifices

Bio:

Born: Staten Island, 1951
Education: Bachelor of Arts, English Literature, Pace University, 1973; 100 credits, Visual Arts, 1984
Published Print: The Five O'Clock Boat - 1992

My painting is representative of a 20-year period: an attempt to be trained and grow as a neo-expressionist. I paint to imbue emotion into the familiar, filling work with energy developed from the use of 011 palette.

At 44, I paint a wide spectrum of subject matters -- always implanting my style, which I feel is in maturity. I consider myself a Staten Island painter. Staten Island, although it is part of the five boroughs, is an island with character that has maintain ed provincialism. I have been schooled and trained in Manhattan. So, that combination provides my environment - a town set against a panoramic harbor. For me, this is a perfect setting to create and to be constantly inspired by nature and urban life. It i s my pleasure to fulfill my instincts to apply myself as a painter.

Statement About Her Work:

Nature challenges us in our perception of the cityscape. In actuality it is never fixed and static; sunlight, clouds and moisture all produce a continuously changing panorama of light, shadow and color.

I create with energy and conviction - resulting in my own free-flowing style. I paint for my own enjoyment and to bring joy to others. My paintings must vibrate with color and form to make the commonplace an exciting visual feast.
