Daniel Galliduani and To Make A Long Story Short: A Work in Progress

Bio:

DANIEL GALLIDUANI was born in Tunisia in 1941 and began showing his paintings in Tunis at age 16. In 1959, he escaped to Paris to study. There he began his career as an artist, and his work was shown in Paris until he moved to the United States in 1965, where he has painted and sculpted ever since.

His contemporary mixed media sculptures range in size from two feet in width and height to 25 feet in width, eight feet in height and seven feet in depth, and combine neon, plastic, stainless steel, bronze, marble, rubber, urethane paint and leather.

In 1985, his sculptures were featured in a solo exhibition, On Seeing, at the Xavier Fourcade Gallery in New York City, and his oil paintings and sculptures have appeared in various group shows in recent years.

Enormously inventive, Galliduani has mastered the difficult art of neon, producing astonishing works that blend philosophy, archetype and universal symbolism. In correspondence with the color, humor and brio of his art, he also creates and performs his own musical compositions on synthesizer and treated saxophone.

As an abstract expressionist painter, Galliduani is known for his explosive colors and daring palette knife. The oil paintings shown here are part of To Make A Long Story Short: A Work in Progress, a 36-foot long work composed of one by one foot, two by two feet and four by four feet modular units, on display throughout February 1996 at Pace University's Schimmel Center for the Arts in New York City.

These new paintings represent a change in mood, material and technique, as the artist returns to the abstract expressionism that was his signature as a young painter.
