Allyson Dyl - Student-Athlete Profile

Student-Athlete Q & A with Allyson Dyl:

What factor(s) most influenced your decision to attend Pace?
The most influential factor for attending Pace was being able to play soccer, receive a scholarship, and do an education major.
With a busy athletic/academic schedule, what method(s) do you use to manage your time efficiently and effectively?
I just try not to leave anything until the last minute or else I would never get anything done. I rely on my planner to help me organize. Organization is very important to me and I try to do my assignments as they are assigned if possible.
When did you know you wanted to become a teacher?
I've always wanted to become a teacher. It's the only thing I ever remember saying that I wanted to do.
How has your experience within the School of Education (SOE) been thus far?
My experience in the SOE so far has been great. I really enjoy doing fieldwork so early.  I feel it really gives a lot of experience that you cannot get any other way.
Are you student teaching yet and if so where?
I am doing my student teaching at Columbus Elementary School in New Rochelle.  I am doing both second grade and fourth grade.
What do you enjoy most about teaching? What do enjoy the least or what is most difficult about teaching?
The thing I enjoy the most is being able to see the kids grow and actually learn things.  You can see a difference in the students from the first day of school to the last, and their reaction when they have that “ah-ha” moment is great.  The most difficult part about teaching is being able to reach out to all different types of students and differentiate instruction as to leave no child behind.
Have any of the lessons and experiences you’ve learned in your sports career carried over to the classroom both as a student and a teacher?
Teamwork- as a teacher you have to be able to work with other teachers and share things for the students to really benefit.
What is the best advice you can offer to a new student athlete who is inspiring to become a teacher?
Learn how to manage your time now because once you get into all of your student teaching and methods classes you will have a lot of work to do in addition to your sport, so time management is very important.
