Application Process

 

To apply for admission to Pace Law School’s JD program, please follow the directions below. If you are interested in one of our Graduate Programs, please go to Graduate Programs and follow the instructions on that site.

Our JD application is now available electronically through the Law School Admissions Council "LSAC" at www.lsac.org You can apply online by selecting one of the following:

Spring 2013:

Fall 2011:
JD Application  - Priority Deadline March 1, 2012**

**After the March 1, 2012 deadline, Applications will be considered on a Rolling Basis.  

First Time Applicants

First-year full-time students may begin their J.D. studies in the Fall or Spring semester.  First-year part-time students may only begin in the Fall semester.  For the deadlines for entry to each term and other important dates please view our Admissions Calendar.

  1. Online Pace Law School application
  2. $65 application fee (non-refundable)

  3. Official transcripts for all undergraduate, graduate, or professional study undertaken.  Final transcripts must include a degree granting date to be considered final.

  4. A typed personal statement that highlights aspects of your background that you believe will be of interest to the Admissions Committee.  We are particularly interested in aspects of your background that may not be evident from other parts of your application, which have prepared you to undertake successfully a rigorous program of law study. 

    You may also include a short addendum if there is an aspect of your application (such as a leave of absence) that you wish to explain further.

  5. Two letters of reference from persons who know you well and who can attest to your capacity to succeed in the study of law

  6. LSAT test score not more than 5 years old and ensure a current CAS report is available for retrieval.

  7. Optional items may include:  Diversity Statement, Brief Addenda explaining distinct trends or inconsistencies in your academic record.

Transfer Students

Transfer students are those who have satisfactorily completed at least one year of law study at a law school approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) and are in good academic standing.  For the deadlines for entry to each term and other important dates please view our Admissions Calendar.  Transfer applicants are required to submit:
 

  1. Online Pace Law School Application

  2. $65.00 application fee (non-refundable)

  3. Two current letters of recommendation, preferrably from a law professor (at least one must be from a law professor)

  4. LSAT test score not more than 5 years old and ensure a current CAS report is available for retrieval.

  5. A typed personal statement explaining the reasons for requesting transfer,

  6. Official transcript of all prior law school work sent directly to LSAT for inclusion in a CAS Report

  7. A letter of good academic standing from the appropriate law school official, which includes the applicant’s class standing

  8. Upon acceptance, transfer students must apply to the Dean for Academic Affairs in writing by (1) Supplying a course description brochure from their previous institution and (2) Filing a petition for the requested transfer credits.  (Please note only up to 30 credits will transfer.)

  9. Upon acceptance, and prior to registration, an official transcript for all undergraduate, graduate, or professional study undertaken, must be forwarded directly to the Office of Admission.

The credit allowed for prior law study is determined on a case-by-case basis. In no case, however, will transfer credit be granted for more than the total credits required in the first-year, full-time curriculum at Pace Law School.  Only up to 30 credits will transfer. Further, under no circumstances shall transfer credit be granted for prior law work in which the grade earned was less than that grade required for graduation, i.e. usually the grade of a “C”.

Visiting Students

Any law student who is currently attending an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school and is in good academic standing can apply as a non-matriculating or visiting student. Visiting students must have permission from the dean of their law school to take courses at Pace Law School. Applicants must submit the following materials: 

  1. Pace Law School Application

  2. $65.00 application fee (non-refundable)

  3. An official transcript of all prior law school coursework sent directly to the Office of Admissions

  4. A letter of good standing from the home school clearly stating that credit for classes undertaken at Pace Law School will be applied to your degree at your home school.

The Office of Admissions prefers and recommends the use of the Law School Credential Assembly Service (LSAC) for application and document processing. Students who are unable to utilize the LSAC service may submit their downloaded application and documents electronically or via mail.  Regardless of submission method, all applicants are considered equally based upon their application materials.

International Applicants

Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to demonstrate a satisfactory level of proficiency in the use of the English language. An exception may be made for an applicant who has earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in the United States. Applicants for whom the TOEFL test is required should contact TOEFL online at www.ets.org or by phone at 609-921-9000 for information and application forms.

Applicants who attended undergraduate or graduate programs at foreign universities are required to take the LSAT and must register with either the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) JD Credential Assembly Service or with the World Education Service (WES) to have their foreign undergraduate and graduate transcripts evaluated. Additional information on these services can be obtained online at www.lsac.org and www.wes.org

  4. TOEFL Test score of at least 100, not more than 4 years old.

  5. A typed personal statement setting forth those life experiences which have contributed to your personal development and which have prepared you to undertake successfully a rigorous program of law study

    You may also include a short addendum if there is an aspect of your application (such as a leave of absence) that you wish to explain further.

  6. Two letters of reference from persons who know you well and who can attest to your capacity to succeed in the study of law

  7. Official transcripts for all undergraduate, graduate, or professional study undertaken.  Final transcripts must include a degree granting date to be considered final.

Audit Students

We currently do not allow auditing of classes by non-matriculated students.  To visit Pace Law School and view a class as a prospective applicant please call the Office of Admissions to schedule a visit at 914-422-4210 or email us at admissions@law.pace.edu.

Reapplication

Students who previously attended Pace Law School and who have not been in attendance at the law school for more than one year must complete the admissions process in the same manner as any other applicant. To be eligible for readmission, the former student must meet all admissions standards applicable at the time of reapplication. It is essential that all time and all activities since the previous enrollment be accounted for in the new application.

PLEASE NOTE: All decisions on applications are final for a given term, students are welcome to go through the admissions process again for the next term and have their updated file submitted for admissions consideration.  It is essential that all time and all activities since the previous application submission be accounted for in the new application.

Application Deadlines

First-year, full-time students may begin their JD studies in the fall and/or spring semester. First-year, part-time students may begin only in the fall semester. November 15 is the priority deadline for Spring (January) admission and March 1 is the priority deadline for Fall admission.  Applications will be considered after the deadlines on a Rolling Admissions basis.

LSAT/LSDAS

All applicants are required to take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) and to have their test scores reported to the Law School. The score must be no more than five years old at the time an application is considered by the Admissions Committee. The LSAT is offered four times a year at numerous locations around the World. Registration materials for the test may be obtained by calling (215) 968-1001 or writing Law School Admission Council, Box 40, 662 Penn Street, Newton, PA 18940-0098 or on the web at www.lsac.org.

Applicants are required to register with Law School Admissions Council "LSAC" to have test results and academic transcripts processed and sent to the Law School. The LSAC supplies the Law school with a report, known as the CAS Report, that summarizes the applicant’s academic profile, LSAT score, copies of transcripts, writing samples and letters of recommendation.
