THE GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE
A center of the publishing and art world, New York City is the ideal environment for Shelby Green. “My interest in intellectual property law stems from an underlying interest in books and museums,” she says.
Her courses in copyright and entertainment law help prepare Pace students for the changing IP world. “IP contributes nearly 5% of our gross domestic product, and it’s growing exponentially,” she says. “IP is a crucial aspect of our trade talks with other nations, and as the Internet continues to expand, there’s a huge philosophical debate on whether copyright holders should have a say in electronic reproduction of their works.”
In collaboration with Pace’s Intellectual Property Law Society, Shelby often invites practitioners to campus to share their experiences in academic and transactional areas of IP. “That helps bring a practical aspect to academic issues,” she says. Outside the classroom, she provides pro bono counsel, for which she recently received a service award from the New York State Bar Association.
Shelby takes pride in the strength of Pace’s IP program and ranks not only its course listings but the caliber of its students with those of other top law schools. “I’m continually impressed with the level of professional and practical knowledge of Pace students,” she says.
