Pace Computer Learning Center
The Pace Computer Learning Center (PCLC) confronted a major challenge in 2007, with the closing of the 9 th and 10 th floors of the Pace Midtown Center. This change removed four of PCLC's five computer classrooms, and access to evening classrooms was severely limited.
In spite of this challenge, the Computer Learning Center met its revenue target for the year, continuing to offer its existing programs and adding new programs wherever possible for additional revenue.
Existing Programs
- Red Hat Linux training expanded in both White Plains and Midtown.
- Public project management programs grew in 2007, with increased demand for 5-day programs preparing clients to take professional certification examinations offered by the Project Management Institute®.
- PCLC continued to offer public and corporate PC classes in office applications and Web technologies in White Plains and Midtown. To meet room availability challenges in Midtown, PCLC was able to utilize the training classroom run by the MS in Publishing program.
- During 2007, PCLC became an authorized Adobe Training Center and has been successful with public classes in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, Acrobat, and Illustrator.
- PCLC continues to work closely with the Westchester Not-for-Profit Technology Council in a program that offers low-cost PC training for not-for-profit organizations. The classes are supported by funding from Verizon, the County of Westchester, and JP Morgan Chase
- A new relationship with the Building Service Workers Union enables PCLC to run classes for its members on Saturday afternoons, allowing us to make underutilized space produce revenue.
New Programs
The following new programs are either in development or are already being offered:
- Certificate in Web Design I (45 hours) and II (45 hours). These evening programs offer training in the Adobe applications used to create robust and fully functional Web sites.
- Business Continuity Planning (offered through the Disaster Recovery Institute). This new course gives participants a general introduction into Business Continuity Management. In addition, the course will prepare the participants for the DRI International certification exam.
