Director - Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology

Welcome to the second issue of Cornerstone, the electronic newsletter for the CTLT.
It has been a while since our last publication and that is because some exciting changes have taken place.

Last semester, the Pforzheimer Center for Faculty Development and the Center for Instructional Technologies (CIT) joined forces to form the Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT). The primary reason for this merger is to better utilize financial and human resources. By joining forces we can bring you additional and better faculty development resources. Dr Constance Knapp (CSIS) became co-director (NY) of the Pforzheimer Center, replacing Dr. James Hall (Lubin) who resigned after many years of dedicated service to the Center. Dr. Linda Anstendig (Dyson) remains the Westchester co-director until the end of this academic year.

I am also pleased to announce that Pace University now has an Instructional Designer on staff. Dhal Anglada will be leaving his current position to assume the responsibilities of this new position. Many of you know Dhal and I encourage you to contact him (extension 1420) for any instructional design needs you may have for any of your courses.

In additional, the new CTLT recognized the need for the development of an office to provide support to online teaching and learning. This office's primary task is to make certain that all administrative and academic support found on campus will also have a web presence so that faculty and students involved with asynchronous or hybrid courses can rely on quality service. The office officially starts this Spring Semester so watch for an official announcement.

We have provided you with a number of articles and reports in this issue of Cornerstone that we hope you enjoy reading. Some of the highlights include a report from Connie Knapp and Linda Anstendig on the Pforzheimer Center. Sarah Burns (Library) contributed an article on Information Literacy and Dr. Rebecca Martin (Dyson) wrote an article addressing the issue of "distance" in distance education. In addition, Dr. Kevin Wynne (Lubin) offers some insight into incorporating streaming video in his courses. Also included are two brief reaction pieces from students who have taken an online course. Lastly, there are articles from the CIT staff on timely topics.

Please check out the announcement section of the newsletter. Here you will find timely information on upcoming events including the latest information on the second annual three-day Faculty Institute on May 28th, 29th and 30th on the Pleasantville campus.

I want to thank Joe Seijo who is the editor of Cornerstone and I hope you agree that he has done a great job putting this all together. Enjoy this newsletter and remember that your feedback is important and we value it. Thanks and have a great semester!
