National Pan-Hellenic Council

My name is Tyler Duncan. I am the President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) here at Pace University for the 2012-2013 year. I am a Brother of the Kappa Mu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. The NPHC was formed as a permanent organization on May 10, 1930 on the campus of Howard University. The stated purpose and mission of the organization is “unanimity of thought and action as far as possible in the conduct of Greek letter collegiate fraternities and sororities”. The council was charted by the following organizations, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.  In 1931, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc joined, followed by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc in 1937, and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. in 1997 These nine NPHC organizations are sometimes collectively referred to as the "Divine Nine".

The NPHC at Pace University is composed of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.  We meet every Wednesday at 10:00pm in conference rooms A/B. The NPHC Executive Board consists of: President Tyler Duncan , Vice President Megan Haye, Vice President of Programming Briana Thomas Vice President of Administration Joanne Williams, Vice President of Finance Sungi Clark, Senator Rebecca Romulus, and Alternate Senator Alexandria Tribble. We hold individual chapters events as well as council events focused on our philanthropies as well as recruitment.  Our Greek community plays and essential role in the PaceUniversity community and the NPHC is only one of those pieces.

The stated purpose and mission of NPHC in 1930 was “Unanimity of thought and action as far as possible in the conduct of Greek letter collegiate fraternities and sororities, and to consider problems of mutual interest to its member organizations.  Early in 1937, the organization was incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois and became known as “The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated.
