Student Association Candidates - Daniella Willocks
Position Desired: VP of Unity & Social Justice
Major: Public Accounting
Vice President of Marketing - Association of Latinos Professional in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA)
Do you really take time to read daily email blasts and hallway filled with flyers? Dont you hate when the school has amazing events and you miss it because you never heard about it? Well if I, Daniella Willocks, am elected Vice President of Unity and Social Justice you will never miss a fun event again! I plan to increase communication between students, organizations and the University by creating a Pace phone application. The application will initially launch with basic information, including schedule, class schedule, and most importantly which events are happening on campus. I think this will increase communication because while the Pace website has a lot of information, it can sometimes be overwhelming to navigate. Orgsync is also supposed to make it easiest for organizations to promote their events; however it is not well-known or readily used by students. The current way that the university communicates with students about events is confusing because daily email blasts and hallways filled with advertisement do not persuade students to get involved in an activity. Instead it makes students ignore events. I imagine my legacy to be the beginning of a more innovative way of communication between what the student body wants and what the Pace Student Association can provide. Do you sometimes feel that you are in a bubble at Pace? I wish Pace generated more awareness and interest in global issues, such as the European crisis, or the presidential election. A more proactive Pace is what I want to strive for. If elected I will pop the bubble that Pace may find themselves in, opening their eyes to bigger national and world-wide issues. Vote for Daniella Willocks for VP of Unity and Social Justice!
What interests you about being a candidate for the Student Association Executive Board?
Being a part of Student Association Executive Board is more than just getting involved on campus. It is defining what campus life means to other students. As a student myself, I know how hard it is for ones voice to be heard. I am looking to create a more solid bridge between the students and Pace Universitys administration. Im interested because setting the standard for student life on the Pace Pleasantville Campus will help me further develop my communication, leadership, and advocacy skills, as I strive to give Pace Students the best college experience.
What makes you the best candidate for the position?
I think I am the best candidate for this position because I have plans to generate more awareness and interest in global issues, such as the European crisis, or the presidential election. I have many traits that will help, such as enthusiasm, creativity, and diligence. I feel I am hard working in that I have managed to maintain a 3.66 GPA while working at an off-campus job. I was able to accomplish this because of my good time management skills, study habits, and motivation. I believe that motivation can make anything possible. My enthusiasm for learning will serve me well because the job of making students aware of issues in todays world requires someone who enjoys learning about these issues.
What are the core values you associate with the term "student leadership"? Please elaborate.
The values I feel a student leader should have are self- improvement, teamwork, determination, and an open mind. An open mind is one of the most important qualities for a student leader to have. An open mind allows one to adequately use the resources around him or her, such as the strength of ones peers. Helping others to see and use their hidden potential can make any idea go above and beyond expectations. My expectation as a student leader is to create clear communication between my vision and students interests. I believe that in order to generate students interests you have to take innovative risks, and then improve if necessary using students feedback. The ability to understan d feedback as a way to further develop future plans makes one a better leader. My determination to achieve great goals has made me successful. My determination has made me see the benefits of listening to others concerns as a way to accomplish success.
How/why does effective student leadership require ethics and integrity?
Students leadership requires ethics and integrity because student leaders are role models. Ethics are defined by a persons ability to maintain proper decorum. Proper decorum simply means that you respect others opinions and you maintain a positive attitude when you are faced with challenges. Integrity defines a persons decision making. Student leader decisions are based on what they feel the student body will be interested in and not on their own personal agenda. They also stay true to what they promise. Student leaders must also be honest because they represent the people whose trust they need to continue to lead.
