Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility
"I pledge to explore and take into account the social and environmental consequences of the choices I make in my daily life as well as in any job I consider. I will try to improve these aspects at home and with any organization for which I work."
2009 was the inaugural year of the Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility at Pace University. Over 3,400 graduating students from Pace University have signed the Graduation Pledge since 2009.
The Pledge is purely voluntary, and the only commitment is the commitment you make to yourself based on your view of what it means to be socially and environmentally responsible. All graduating students are invited to sign the pledge (undergraduate, graduate, law).
The following schools, departments, and organizations have endorsed the pledge and its principles.
Email GreenPace if your department, school, or student organization would like to endorse the Pledge.

What The Pledge Means
By taking the Graduation Pledge, you will be engaging in a global effort to actively pursue solutions for a sustainable world, one where we aim to meet the needs of today without compromising the needs of the future.
Each year, more than 1,000,000 students enter the work force. Imagine the impact on our society if even a small number of people inquire about or attempt to change the ethical practices of their potential or current employers or make changes in their daily lives.
By taking the Pledge and receiving a pin to wear at Commencement (and post-graduation), it will serve as a reminder of the importance and significance our actions have on the world and our environment, and the promise that individuals can make a difference.
The Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility began in 1987 at Humboldt State University (HSU) in Arcata, California by a small group of students and community members, leading to the formation of the Graduation Pledge Alliance. The GPA is currently coordinated by the Bentley University Alliance for Ethics and Social Responsibility in Waltham, Massachusetts. Since its inception, more than 300 colleges and universities have instituted the pledge at some level – around the world.
