46 Adult and Continuing Education MISSION Pace University is dedicated to addressing the special concerns of adult and nontraditional students who are seeking ways to enhance or complete their education. Pace University’s commitment to its motto Opportunitas is exemplified by its mission, which is to provide working men and women the opportunity to realize their dreams of success. This distinguished tradition is evident today as over half of Pace’s 13,500 students are adults. The Office of Undergraduate Admission and the Office of Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) work together to serve adult and other non-traditional students, including non-matriculated and non-degree students. Degree-seeking students should start by making an appointment with the Adult Admission Counselor in Undergraduate Admission. Non-degree-seeking students may go directly to the Office of Adult and Continuing Education. Advisors will assist students with the following: 1.  Admission and registration processes. 2.  Academic advisement including: a)  tentative evaluation of transfer credits for educa- tional planning b) review of degree programs best suited to meet the needs of students c)  referral to appropriate resources for counseling and career services d) advisement for nondegree, noncredit, and continuing education programs. 3.  Assessment of prior learning for college credit. 4.  Administration of special degree programs designed for adult students who have accumulated a large number of transfer credits or are planning to use prior learning assessment to complete their degree. 5.  Orientation to the academic world for returning adults and other nontraditional students. ADULT DEGREE PROGRAMS Pace University offers a variety of specialized adult degree programs that offer greater flexibility than traditional degrees and the opportunity to incorporate prior learning. Online Accelerated Bachelor’s Degree Completion Programs To meet the demand for a college degree for returning adult students, many of whom have been out of school for some years, Pace has designed special online accelerated bachelor completion degrees. These degrees prepare students for successful professional careers in a global economy in the midst of rapid technological change. The students will be adults who do not wish to or cannot attend traditionally scheduled classes, who have experience in the workplace, who have an associate’s degree (A.A. or A.S.) or the equivalent (60–64 credits), who have very full professional and personal lives, and who are motivated to learn in an online electronic environment. Using a struc- tured, accelerated format, these degrees allow students to complete the bachelor’s degree in two years. To enroll in the accelerated completion degrees, students must meet the following requirements: •    Students must have at least three years of full-time work experience or the equivalent. •    Students must have successfully earned an associates degree (A.A. or A.S.), or at least 64 college credits with a minimum QPA of 2.5 from a regionally accredited institution, or a combination of 64 credits obtained through Pace Experiential Learning credits, CLEP, and prior college credits. There will be a review of the student’s transcript to ensure no duplication of credit. •    Students must have completed at least one credit- bearing, college-level writing course with a minimum grade of C. There are two accelerated bachelor completion degrees, one offered by the School of Computer Science and Information Systems and one offered by the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences.
