ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES MAJOR Bachelor of Arts (NYC, PLV) The Environmental Studies major prepares students for careers in both the public and private sectors in areas like compliance, research, advocacy, impact analysis, GIS (geographic information systems), and to pursue graduate studies in law, public administration, environmental education, environmental science and advanced degrees in environmental studies. Most importantly the program provides students with the skills necessary for responsible environmental citizenship. Beside the standard environmental studies major, students have an opportunity to choose from two concen- trations: science and humanities. To fulfill the requirements for the concentration, students must take 12 credits in their chosen area; only 6 credits can be from environmental electives. The Environmental Studies program also offers three combined degree programs; designed so students can complete both the undergraduate and graduate degrees one year earlier than usual: BA in environmental studies and MS in environmental science in five years; BA in environ- mental studies and MPA in policy and management in five years (awaiting approval from the NYS Regents); BA in environmental studies and JD in environmental law in six years. To complete the combined degree requirements within the accelerated deadline, students must register for the degree at the end of their sophomore year. For addi- tional information, contact the Environmental Studies coordinator.
