98    Dyson College of Arts and Sciences the resources to furnish them, management skills, creative problem solving, legal expertise, and objective analysis are essential to the effective performance of government, health care and not-for-profit organizations. To meet these new demands, the institute and MLRC sponsor conferences and training workshops, and conduct empirical studies for government and community leaders and citizens on major issues of public policy, politics, and government operations. In addition, the institute works closely with the Department of Political Science and Graduate Public Administration program in placing students in internships and employment positions with governmental and not-for-profit agencies. The Edwin G. Michaelian Municipal Law Resource Center is a multifaceted legal research and reference center for government. The Center assists local governments in resolving their basic legal and organizational problems by providing legal research and consulting services and conducting continuing education programs and management studies. With the assistance of law student interns, the Center responds to several hundred research requests annually covering all aspects of municipal law. The MLRC bimonthly digest, the Municipal Lawyer, cosponsored by the Municipal Law section of the State Bar Association, highlights and explains recent judicial decisions, administrative rulings, and legislative enactments affecting local government. The Municipal Lawyer also publicizes MLRC research in progress, new MLRC library holdings, and upcoming continuing legal education and training programs. Emil Froeschels Speech and Hearing Center The Center offers diagnosis and treatment of speech and language disorders. These services are provided through a regularly scheduled course for students attending Pace University. Members of the family of a Pace student who avail themselves of this service are charged on a sliding fee scale. The Center is located on the New York City campus, and facilities include a waiting room, administrative office, two-room soundproofed hearing testing suite, sound- treated therapy rooms, a conference room, equipment room, and a laboratory/classroom. Major equipment includes hearing testing instruments, tape recorders, materials for testing and therapy for a variety of communication disturbances, and materials for research and instruction. Straus Thinking and Learning Center The Straus Thinking and Learning Center serves as an integral component of the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences’ mission to provide all Pace students with a general education that fosters a community of learners among faculty and students. The center will assist faculty in creating, developing, and teaching innovative core courses that: incorporate interactive learning methodolo- gies; are focused on student learning outcomes; foster critical thinking skills and link content, pedagogy, compe- tencies, collaborative learning, and reflection. The center’s activities include: seminars, workshops, discussions, teaching circles, conferences, and cosponsored programs with groups interested in strengthening the general education experience of all Pace students.
