Administrative Staff Council Meeting

Butcher Suite, Kessel Campus Center, Pleasantville



  • We have an invite in to the President to speak, will let council members know as soon as it is scheduled.
  • Sunrise to Sunset Read Aloud will be held 9/19 at Mortola.  Volunteers are still needed.  Contact Christina Conte at 
  • Bill Link announced current campus improvements:  PNY renovations include 55 John Street, Café 101 Renovation, new Black Box Theatre for MFA program,, Schimmel upgrades including handicap accessibility and bathrooms on stage level.  PLV renovations include renovation of Law school library, lighting for miller parking lot, memorial “Shirley Beth’s Way” walkway from Miller to Kessel which will be dedicated on October 7th, handicap accessible bathrooms in Miller and Dow, and the new grass area replacing the old horse stable.  There will be further discussion with the student body for ideas of how to best utilize it.  On-going campus-wide energy updates have taken place include replacement of 10,000 light bulbs with more energy efficient florescent blubs and the university plans to double that number next year.
  • A suggestion was made send out an announcement to thank those who retired this year which would also serve a dual purpose to alert staff to personnel changes.   HR has discussed and will respond.


Treasurer’s Report:


  There is no report this month.


Committee Report:


  • Benefits Committee – No report this month.
  • Middle States Representative – Karen Desantis updated the council on the progress of the university self-study and suggested that staff take the time to familiarize themselves with the documents which will be available to the university community through a Middle States section of the university web-site.   Staff who are interested in participating in the group are encouraged to contact Karen at
  • Faculty Council Representative – Karen Desantis reported on the Faculty Council Meeting held on 9/7/07.  President Friedman presented information on the creation of an interim strategic plan, that he is currently working on.  This 4-6 month will be a short-term plan until a committee Pace representatives (between 15-20) is selected and begins work on plan that will better represent Pace and where it is going today.  Enrollment data and Pace’s new marketing plan was shared by VP Rubina Schepp.  VP Rick Whitfield shared updated budget information.  Provost Brackett shared information that a new substantial gift to the university will be shared soon.
  • Picnic Committee –No report this month
  • Service Committee – Dan Botting reminded staff that Human Resources is continuing the 8-hour release for service.  Staff receive approval from their supervisor and they can participate in service either arranged by the Center for Community Outreach, or by the individual themselves.  Paint a School will be held on 10/22, and Denim Day will be held on 10/5
