Pace University’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) prepares students with the skills they need to succeed in some of the fastest growing areas of the national economy: environmental management, government, healthcare, and nonprofit management. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, these professions will grow at a faster than average pace during this decade. 
 
These newly listed courses in the MPA program are open to all tracks, and will equip you with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to succeed.

PAA 642 Regional Planning (CRN 21670)

Description: This course examines the relationship of planning to political and market processes and the structure of urban, suburban and regional political systems are explored. Special attention will be given to the topics of sustainability in the 21st century, new urban forms and development, metropolitanism, territorial competitiveness, public-private partnerships, community planning, forecasting, and suburbanism in 2014. Students will have the opportunity to learn through multiple case studies, illustration, and an applied project requiring them to analyze or create an actionable regional plan.
 
 
PAA 681 Advanced Seminar for Not-for-Profit Management Issues: Special Topic: Incentives, Performance and Governance (CRN 23621)

Description: The nonprofit sector is an increasingly vital component of our society and is allowed great freedom to operate. The public assumes that nonprofits are established to do good and that the management of these organizations is altruistic. Yet, the nonprofit sector is ripe ground for negligent management, fraud, self-dealing, poor governance, and misaligned incentive structures. In this seminar, we will explore the underlying issues that complicate nonprofit governance structures, review case studies of organizational failure, and identify best-practice innovations in performance incentives and accountability mechanisms.
 
 
PAA 683 Seminar/Lab in Social Entrepreneuship (CRN 23622)

Description: This course will provide an in-depth exploration of the rapidly developing field of social entrepreneurship in which business and nonprofit leaders design, grow, and lead mission-driven enterprises. These social ventures range from socially responsible for-profit companies (e.g., Toms Shoes), to nonprofits earning signficant portions of their money through revenue-generating businesses (e.g., Greytson Foundation and Bakery), to nonprofits using entrepreneurial tools to ramp up their impact (e.g., Teach for America). Through guest speakers, case discussion, and student inquiry, this course will explore this emerging field. 
 
 
PAA 690 Practicum: Technologies and Social Media in the Public Sector (CRN 23323)

Description: This course explores the myriad uses of Web 2.0 technologies and social media in the public sector and combines existing practices with theories of public administration, networked governance and information management.
