Dress for Success

Business Professional Job Interviewing Attire

In an interview, you want your skills and professional personality to make a statement, not your outfit.

Clothes should be:

  • Solid, dark or neutral colors.
  • Light colors can be worn underneath.
  • No stripes or bright print/colors.
  • Suit jacket and pants/skirt should be matching colors.
  • Tailored, in good condition, and wrinkle and lint free.

Also:

  • Hair well groomed.
  • Nails and makeup natural in style.
  • Wear moderate jewelry and mild fragances.
  • Neat and clean dress shoes.
  • Belts should match the color of your shoes and attire.

And, finally, don't forget:

  • Keep cellphones turned off and out of sight with personal items.
  • Carry a portfolio, professional bag or simple purse.
  • Bring essentials only!

Business Casual Daily Work Attire

A lot of Pace employers are now business casual, which can save you a lot of money on dry cleaning! However, for interviews, we recommend you always dress business professional. Once you get the job, here are some tips on how to fit in in a business casual environment:

  • Nice pants/slacks.
  • Dresses.
  • No jeans, shorts, sundresses, or athletic wear.
  • Skirts and dresses should not be too short.
  • Fun jewelry and scarves.
  • Blazers and cardigans with flats, boots, closed-toe shoes, or comfortable shoes for walking in.
  • Piercings and tattoos? Align to company culture or standards.
