What does a tutor do...

A Tutor provides individual and small group tutoring to students in the Tutorial Center located in Mortola Library, Room 309. A tutor will assist students in improving academic achievement by tutoring in accordance with the best philosophy and practices. They will help students on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills. Other assistance might include: reviewing class material, discussing the text, predicting test questions, formulating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems. Tutoring is a supplement to classroom teaching. Tutors are not expected to know everything about the subject for which they tutor.

What responsibilities does a tutor have...

  • Complete ongoing trainings and attend any meetings.
  • Check your tutoring email daily for new assignments and announcements.
  • Monitor student sign-in and out process with use of TutorTrac.
  • Write notes on tutoring sessions with use of TutorTrac.
  • Be punctual for all scheduled tutoring session hours.
  • Work on any additional projects as required by the Associate Director.
  • Continue your learning of subjects daily and be willing to learn subjects and classes you didn’t formally take.

What qualifications does a tutor have...

  • A "B+" or higher in the course(s) to be tutored and instructor recommendation.
  • Responsible, dependable, honest, and mature.
  • Friendly, patient, and sensitive to a diverse group of students.
  • Overall GPA of 3.3 or higher (3.5 or higher preferred) 
  • Current Pace student
