Learn How to Effectively Manage Your Construction Projects from Design to Construction!

The purpose of this program is to acquire the knowledge in the design and construction industry by gaining an understanding of all the disciplines required for the execution of a project from the viewpoint of the professional services of architects, engineers and construction experts. The course work will begin with the fundamentals of materials and methods of construction for residential and commercial applications. It will cover the mechanical and engineering concepts required for the construction of a building. The program includes learning the skills of reading blueprints, construction documents and specifications including learning how to calculate quantity takeoffs of construction materials from blueprints needed to submit accurate construction cost estimates. The course of study will cover the managerial approach of project management and include a workshop on creating a project schedule through the critical path method: a deterministic approach in project scheduling. And finally as a capstone to the course work there will be a workshop in understanding Construction Contract Administration and how to clearly recognize the “general conditions of the contract for construction” – a document that is commonly utilized throughout the construction industry.

Participants will receive a Pace University Certificate of Completion.

Teresa O. Malihan began her career working in the design and construction field since 1981.  With more than 27 years in corporate architecture/facilities designing trading floors for capital markets and their back office operations for companies like American Express Shearson Lehman, Morgan Stanley, Rockefeller Center Management Corporation - diversified portfolio from Corporate facilities management to high-end commercial and retail environment with sophisticated  information technology systems.

As a Construction Manager for NYC Construction Management Company, she’s managed construction projects like multi-tenant Lobbies for Heitman Properties, and First Union Bank. She served as the Director of Facilities for United Federation of Teachers, a collective bargaining entity representing the NYC Teachers managing all design and construction of capital projects for the headquarters in Manhattan and all the satellite offices in the boroughs, Boca Raton Florida and Albany.

She holds a degree and a license to practice architecture in New York State. She holds a Masters of Business Administration in General Management and a Masters in Professional Studies in Industrial labor relations from Cornell University.

At New York University’s Real Estate Schack Institute, Teresa O. Malihan serves as an Adjunct professor in Construction Project Management, Facilities Management, Construction documents, Principles of Project Management, and Managing Small Development Projects.  At City University of NY - NYC College of Technology, Teresa is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Architectural Technology and Civil Engineering and Construction Management .  At the Regional Alliance for Small Contractor, she serves as a lecturer for Construction Project Management, Contract Administration, Cost Estimating and Blueprint reading for Pace University and New Jersey Institute of Technology.
