Public participation in scientific research – often referred to as “citizen science” – has grown in popularity among environmental organizations as a way of educating and engaging diverse audiences. The field has also grown exponentially among academics, and there is a wealth of published research about the effectiveness of citizen science programs for increased scientific literacy and environmental stewardship, among other outcomes.
The Science Training for Environmental Professionals Series (STEPS) is a free professional development workshop series hosted by the Dyson College Institute for Sustainability and the Environment. This series utilizes Pace University's resources and knowledge to provide science training to local environmental stakeholders so that they may advance their environmental conservation and/or sustainability initiatives. The latest science on various topics will be covered throughout the year.
