Chair's Welcome

Welcome to the Biology Department at Pace University, NYC Campus.  The Biology Department contains a unique teaching and research-focused group of faculty that integrate their scientific research into the training, education and mentoring of students. Our faculty are actively involved in both basic and applied research in a wide range of areas including cancer research, molecular biology of reproduction, the molecular mechanisms in nerve cells, plant biology and plant responses to stress, global warming, bacterial pathogens, aquatic ecology, and tropical microbial ecology. These research projects, many of which are funded by federal grants, include both undergraduate and graduate student participation. Our students have presented the results of their research work at national and international scientific meetings and have authored papers in scientific journals. They have also been the recipients of international fellowships for continued study in the United States and abroad. To learn more about our faculty research projects, please visit the Research Opportunities page.

Whether you are interested in a career in biological research, a health-related profession, teaching, or wish to pursue an advanced degree, our programs will provide you with the necessary skills for success. Our degree programs include Biology (BA and BS), Pre-Health Joint Degree Programs (BS), and Environmental Science (BS). You will also have the opportunity to conduct independent laboratory research with individual faculty or enter into an internship at a health care facility, private company, or non-profit organization as part of our experiential learning component of the curriculum.

Our graduates have a clear understanding of the connections among all the sciences; are adept at identifying and resolving complex issues across the life sciences; and are strong at communicating scientific results and conclusions to scientific, public, private sector and governmental audiences. As such, these students are destined to be the next generation of scientists and medical/allied health practitioners with careers in local, state, and federal government agencies, regional life science industries, health care, and academia.
