Westchester Walk for World Water

Walk with us:

Saturday, April 21, 9:30AM ~ Pace University, Pleasantville

In solidarity with those who must do so daily, participants will walk one mile through Pace University’s Pleasantville campus with buckets of water on their heads to simulate the search for drinking water. This task is most often given to women and children, in turn continuing cyclical poverty by forcing children to miss school and keeping women from caring for themselves and their families in other ways. Too often their search brings home water that is not even safe to drink.

Did you know:

~ 40 billion hours are spent every year by women and children in the search for water.
~ 1 in 10 people on our planet lacks safe water.
~ That’s 663,000,000 people, almost all in the developing world.
~ 6,720 children die every week due to water-related illnesses.
~ 1 million deaths are caused yearly by hygiene-related diseases.
~ Only .007% of Earth’s water is available for all of us to share. Water is precious.
