3 Famous Cups of Hot Chocolate in New York
If you are studying English in New York at Pace University this January, you already know that the temperature outside is not exactly Summer-like. The months that our English+Career Skills program and Intensive English program classes run during the winter and spring are the coldest of the year in NYC.
Don’t let the low temperatures scare you away! There are countless ways to enjoy New York during the winter season but today I want to share one of my favorite ways with you – staying warm by drinking hot chocolate!
I love chocolate. All of us at the English Language Institute love chocolate! If you visit our office around 3:00pm, you will usually find one of us searching for a piece of chocolate. New York offers some of the best artisanal chocolate shops in the world and many serve their chocolate as warm beverages. Hot chocolate in New York is so much more than melted chocolate with milk!
Three of my favorite shops serve it in a unique way that you definitely have to try before leaving.
#1 Wicked Hot Chocolate by Jacques Torres
With shops near Pace University in the DUMBO and SoHo-Hudson neighborhoods, “Mr. Chocolate” himself Jacques Torres delivers New York’s spiciest cup of hot chocolate. Don’t let the spice fool you! The Jacques Torres recipe blends dark chocolate with cinnamon and ground chipotle and ancho chili peppers. The heat is light so even those who are cautious around hot peppers can still enjoy it!
#2 Premium Hot Chocolate with French Truffles by No Chewing Allowed
The most decadent cup of chocolate you may try this winter in New York is available a short walk from Pace University at the Oculus. No Chewing Allowed sells a variety of French truffles in beautiful packaging that makes great gifts. If you visit the shop in person, you can get a cup of their semi-sweet hot chocolate that contains both cocoa solids and cocoa butter with a truffle at the bottom of the cup! It’s chocolate heaven! During the holiday market season, you can find their stand at Union Square, Bryant Park, and Columbus Circle – each a short subway ride away from Pace! No Chewing Allowed is an ELI student and staff favorite.
#3 Ooeey Gooey fun cup of hot chocolate at Squish Marshmallows
If you are in the mood for something more than just chocolate in your cup, Squish Marshmallows is for you! New Yorkers favorite marshmallow provider offers both a hot chocolate and frozen hot chocolate cup with fun marshmallow flavors such as gingerbread, jelly donut, s’mores, banana pudding, peppermint bark, and more! Their shop is a quick subway ride from Pace as well on St. Marks in the East Village. Make sure you enjoy the hot chocolate from Squish Marshmallows while you are here in winter and spring! The hot chocolate is only seasonal and available during New York’s colder months.
