3 Free Activities to Do in Summer in NYC
My favorite time of the year has arrived!
I plan weekly trips for our students so they can make memories and friendships while they study English in NYC. Summer by far is the easiest and also most challenging time to do this - there are SO MANY great free activities happening!
Below are few of our favorites that we can walk to from the English Language Institute at Pace University.
#1 Free Outdoor Movies at Bryant Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park
Walking distance from our Midtown and Lower-Manhattan campuses are two world-famous parks which both offer free Summer movies in the evening! On select days every week, Bryant Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park setup huge screens and invite New Yorkers to picnic while watching popular movies. Movies typically start at sundown between 8:30pm-9:00pm but you will want to get there early to claim the best piece of grass for your picnic! #2 Summer Fitness Series at Brookfield Place
For students that find sweating and stretching to be a good time, there are hundreds of free outdoor fitness classes to participate in! You can find free yoga, high-intensity workouts, meditation classes, and more across the five boroughs. After their English classes, our students can walk over to nearby Brookfield Place for their free Summer Fitness Series on select weekday evenings and weekend mornings.
#3 Dancing in the Park (multiple locations)
Grab your dancing shoes! New Yorkers LOVE to dance in the street! From May-August you’ll find free salsa and tango classes (and parties) in many of the parks. One of our favorites is Sunset Salsa at Pier 45 in Greenwich Village. A short subway ride or an easy walk from the English Language Institute at Pace University will get you to the Hudson River and night of fun with your friends.
We hope you have fun outside during the NYC summer! Don’t forget to follow the ELI on social media to learn about the trips we are planning for the ELI students! Also, share your favorite free NYC activity in the comments below! We'd love to hear from you!
