Professional and Business Communication in American Culture: 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Au Pair Price $125 (regular price $195)

Join us from October 31st to December 19th (Fall II) for the launch of our Professional and Business Communication in American Culture course. The course will run on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12:30pm. The instructor will guide students through a hands-on experience in writing effective professional e-mails, creating their own American-style résumé, participating in mock job interviews, engaging in negotiation meetings, setting up an effective professional social media profile and more. TOEFL Preparation: 1:30-4:00 p.m. - Au Pair price $125 (regular price $195)

18 hours including the special assignment*
Learn test strategies and review grammar and vocabulary.

In one 7-week term (7 class meetings), a student can take Integrated Skills course (18 hours) or TOEFL Preparation course (18 hours), or both (36 hours).

Professional and Business Communication in American Culture
Join us from October 31st to December 19th (Fall II) for the launch of our Professional and Business Communication in American Culture course. Evening ESL Program

Integrated Skills: Monday AND Wednesday 7:00p.m. – 9:30p.m. Au Pair Price $250 (regular price $390)

36 hours including the special assignment*
Improve grammar, reading, writing, vocabulary, and conversation.

In one 7-week term (14 class meetings), a student receives 36 hours including the special assignment*. In two 7-week terms, a student receives 72 hours at $500.

Spring I 2016: January 25 - March 14
Spring II 2016: March 21 – May 4
Summer I 2016: May 11 – June 29
Summer II 2016: July 6 – August 22

 


Weekend Intensive Program

The course runs from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. The course requires a four-hour assignment that must be completed before the start of the weekend course. The weekend course costs $180 for 20 hours. There is also an option to write a five-page research essay based on the course for an additional 20 hours. This 40-hour option costs $345. Please note that attendance on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm is mandatory in order to earn hours. No partial credit awarded.

American Pop Culture
In this course, we’ll examine various forms of pop culture including music, movies , TV, fashion advertising, sports and cyber-culture, and trace their changes over the last five decades. Learn about the days when hula hoops, hip-huggers, dreadlocks, video games, and grunge were all the rage. Explore the origins, lyrics, and themes in rock ’n’ roll, disco, punk, heavy metal, hip-hop, rap, house and techno music. Join us for this rollercoaster ride through the last five decades of American pop culture.

Option 1: 20 Hours Credit Jan. 23rd and 24th 9am-5pm each day $200 (includes $20 registration fee)

Education in America: Fact & Fiction Through Film
What was your perception of education in America before you arrived? Have your views changed since you’ve been here? Get a different perspective of on education in the U.S. by watching critically acclaimed films and documentaries about American schools. Look at high school and college life through the eyes of renowned filmmakers. Those of you considering studying at an American college can get the inside scoop on what college education and life are really like. This course is interactive, informative and entertaining!

Deeply Discounted Weekday Morning Intensive English Language Courses**

Pace University’s English Language Institute offers au pairs the opportunity to study in our Intensive Program at a deeply discounted rate. A limited number seats are available, and restrictions apply. Act fast!

**Please note that taking morning intensive courses alone will not earn 72 hours for $500. Seventy-two hours can only be earned with $500 by taking Evening and/or Saturday Programs.

Intensive ESL (weekday morning)

Grammar and Writing—Learn proper grammar and avoid common errors in written and spoken English.

Three-Week Winter Intensive Program (January 5 to January 21, 2016)

Placement Test will be held at 10am on January 4. Please email ELI to reserve a seat.

Grammar and Writing: Monday & Wednesday 9:05am to 1:05pm - Special Au Pair Price: $200 (16 hours)
Students learn grammar in the context of their own writing and through controlled exercises from the textbook. Instructors teach students how to correct their own mistakes and improve writing by editing and revising their essays. Advanced students prepare a brief research paper.

Conversation and Listening: Tuesday & Thursday 9:05am to 1:05pm - Special Au Pair Price: $300 (24 hours)
Students improve conversational fluency and listening comprehension. This course focuses on communicating ideas verbally in English. Instructors use audio, video and reading materials to help develop listening and speaking skills.

Registration

Students are required to register prior to or at the first class meeting.

  • Saturday and Evening Students: Please submit the Registration form, Payment/Refund Policies, and the payment to the ELI office prior to the first class or to the instructor at the first class meeting. Please read the Pace University’s CREDIT CARD CONVENIENCE FEE. BEGIINING JULY 2, 2015. You will not be able to pay for your courses with a credit card/debit card in person, and you would be charge a 2.75% convenience fees by paying with your credit card/debit card online. You can pay with a check or money order payable to Pace University (in person at the OSA counter or to the ELI staff of Evening or Saturday courses or mail to ELI office in White Plains.) Please write your name on the memo section so that we can identify whose check it is for.
  • Weekday Morning Intensive Program Students: Please submit the Registration form prior to or on the day of the Placement Test to ELI office. You will receive the registration form back with your University ID number at your first class meeting. Please submit the Registration Form and the payment to the Office of Student Assistance (OSA) on the 1st Floor of the Aloysia Hall. You will be given your receipt. Please read the Pace University's CREDIT CARD CONVENIENCE FEE. BEGIINING JULY 2, 2015. Academic Policies for Au Pair Students to Earn Hours

Saturday Program, Evening Program, and Intensive English Program

  • ATTENDANCE - Students must attend all class meetings including weather-related make-ups. Please inform your instructor or the ELI Office if you must miss a class. Students may miss a maximum of 2 class meetings in the Intensive and Evening Programs, and a maximum of 1 class meeting in the Saturday Program. After the second missed class meeting for the Intensive and Evening Programs, and after the first missed class meeting in the Saturday Program, student must submit a makeup assignment. If any additional class meeting is missed, you will only receive credit for the number of hours actually attended.
  • ELECTRONIC DEVICES - Your instructor will establish rules for using electronic devices such as computers and cell phones in class. You are required to follow these rules.

Directions and Parking Information

ELI is situated on the Pace University School of Law Campus at 78 N Broadway, White Plains, NY 10603.   Here is the google map of the campus for you to navigate to our office.  Once you are on the campus, please follow the parking diagram to find your parking lots.

Please fill out the Application for Car Registration, and bring it to your first class metting (for Saturday and Evening students) and give it to your teacher.  We will try to get you the parking tag within a week.  If you do not submit the request on the first day, you may have to wait for a few weeks to get yout tag.  For Weekday Intensive students, please submit the Application for Car Registration to the ELI Office on the Placement Test date or the first day of your class meeting.  If you wait for the 2nd week, you may have to wait a while to get your tag.  Please submit your request to your teacher (Saturday or Evening) or to the ELI office
