Basic Mediation Training

haub law mediation handshake

Haub Law’s Online Basic Mediation Training introduces participants to the practice of mediation. This 24-hour online course provides participants with an understanding of the skills needed to become a mediator through lecture, discussion, exercises, and simulations.

The course begins with an exploration of alternative dispute resolution options available to parties and goes on to review negotiation theories and strategies that come into play in ADR processes. Participants receive an in-depth analysis of the mediation process and the role of the mediator, including how mediators can prepare for mediation, cultivate trust in the process, address ethical and legal issues that may arise, and work to resolve impasse.

This training is approved under Part 146 by the New York State Unified Court System’s Office of ADR Program and satisfies Part 146 requirements, with at least 24 hours of initial mediation training. Placement on any court roster is at the discretion of the local Administrative Judge and participation in a course that is approved does not guarantee placement on a local court roster. Some courts may require additional training and experience. Acceptance on court rosters may depend on a court’s need for mediators at any given time and may include a particular court’s need for mediators with specific case-type training or experience.

Testimonials

“Professor Gleason Alvarez taught the Basic Mediation training course to a range of participants with varied backgrounds and mediation experience: a practicing professional mediator, a recently retired judge, a social worker, law students and lawyers with a lot or a little experience in mediation. She kept everyone interested and no one felt left behind. I am certain that the experienced participants learned and respected her knowledge and advice as much as the beginners did. "I really enjoyed my experience in Basic Mediation taught by Erin Gleason Alvarez. I thought that the course was well paced and well organized. The lecture portion was informative and engaging. Additionally, I found that the variety of topics that we covered in our mock mediations gave us an opportunity to use the information provided in the lectures to determine the best mediation tactics/skills to use for that scenario.” Amber K., Attorney
