Gardening Workshop
All Pleasantville staff, faculty, and students are invited to join the Gardening for Wellness Workshops in the Pleasantville Environmental Center. Led by Angelo Spillo and Prof. Kate Fink, each interactive workshop will focus on a different aspect of home gardening. No experience is necessary and all materials will be provided. Feel free to attend any or all sessions.
Please email Angelo Spillo at aspillo@pace.edu with any questions.
Gardening Workshop 1: Planning
Friday, February 24
12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m.
Meet participants, discuss areas of interest, and learn what is needed for small scale gardening.
Gardening Workshop 2: Getting Started
Friday, March 24
12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m.
Help start seedlings and prepare the soil for the garden. Participants can start their own plants in our greenhouse to take home. Discussions will include small space gardening and how to grow in pots for those with limited space at home.
Gardening Workshop 3: Planting & Nurturing
Friday, April 14
12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m.
Time to get hands dirty transplanting and caring for plants. At the end of this session, we'll reflect on our progress and discuss what’s next in the outdoor pavilion while we enjoy a healthy snack.
Gardening Workshop 4: Harvesting & Healthy Eating
Friday, May 5
12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m.
While some plants are still being transplanted into the ground, some are ready to be harvested and enjoyed. Participants will be able to pick from the garden and enjoy some of what they grew.
Gardening Get Togethers
The Pace community is invited to join the Gardening Club’s informal lunchtime meet-ups where we'll discuss participants' progress and problems, exchange healthy vegetarian recipes, share seeds, and swap ideas. Meet-ups will continue throughout the summer months and will include visits to the Environmental Center garden.
These workshops are made possible through the dedicated work of Program Managers Angelo Spillo and Kate Fink and through funding provided by the Office of the Provost and their support of the University’s Wellness goals through gardening.
