Teaching and Learning With Zines

Join us for a virtual introduction to the Pace Zine Library, a new resource for experiential pedagogy sponsored by the Faculty Center. The Pace Zine Library is a collection of zines, pamphlets, artist books, chapbooks and radical and alternative publications of all kinds, both contemporary and historic. Zines are self-published booklets of original or appropriated text and images, increasingly present in higher education environments, where they are used as exploratory pedagogical tools for the development of student voice, self-awareness, creativity, and authority, outside of the strict boundaries of scholarly communication and mainstream media. Many faculty members at Pace have implemented or are experimenting with zine pedagogies and the Pace Zine Library.

In this workshop, panelists will share examples of how faculty are incorporating the collection into their teaching and brainstorm ideas for continuing to develop this collection to support teaching, learning, and research.

Facilitators: Susan Thomas (Library; Co-Founder of Pace Zine Library), Derek Stroup (Dyson; Co-Founder of Pace Zine Library), and Kelley Kreitz (Dyson; Experiential Learning and the Path).
