Martin Hall & North Hall Updates!
You asked, we answered!
The residents of Martin Hall and North Hall have asked us to review how rooms and bathrooms are assigned in the building based on gender. Residents advocated for this change as it affords students more affordable options for all gender housing, and more freedom to choose their community. As of Fall 2018, the following changes will be made in Martin Hall and North Hall.
The breakdown of Martin Hall and North Hall is as follows:
|Section:||Bathroom Designation:||Section Configuration:|
|2C||All Gender||Mixed Gender|
|3C||All Gender||Mixed Gender|
Mixed Gender Floors
Some of the floors will be mixed gender and some will remain gender specific.
A mixed gender section is one where students of all gender identities can choose to live in any room in this section. For example: B31 can be a female room, B32 can be a male room, B33 can be an all gender room, etc.
While the section is mixed gender, an individual room will only be mixed gender if all students in the room mutually request this option. Residential Life & Housing’s default practice is to assign gender-specific rooms. For more information, see the All Gender Housing web page.
During the summer, we will be renovating the bathrooms so that the showers will have lockable stall doors. Some of the bathrooms will be all gender and some will remain gender specific bathrooms. Students will be able to access whichever bathroom they feel comfortable using in the building.
In keeping with Pace University’s policy of nondiscrimination on the basis of gender identity or actual or perceived sex, Pace University allows individuals to use a sex-specific restroom and/or locker room facility that corresponds to their gender identity and/or legal sex. Individuals that must be accompanied by a different gender attendant, guardian or adult may use a gender-specific facility if necessary.
Please trust that each individual knows which restroom is right for them.
