"Giving back in some way is how I'd like to live my life and working in a holistic environment, I believe, would be just the thing for me."
– Gjek Vukelj, Class of 2018

Meet Gjek Vukelj from Bronx, New York, a finance major on our Pleasantville campus.

Why did you choose Finance as a major?

I chose to major in finance because there was a huge appeal to me in helping others manage their money. Ideally, becoming a financial advisor would help me help others in making the right money decisions and securing themselves and their families fiscally for the rest of their lives.

Have you ever done anything interesting in the finance field?

During the Summer of 2017, I interned at a financial firm that specialized in creating and maintaining financial strategies for their clients. I was personally working under the firm's recruiter to pull in possible candidates to work in the firm as well as dealing with many different life insurance policies and learning the inner-workings of the business.

Do you believe your internship experience has helped to prepare you for your future? How so?

I believe my internship did prepare me for the future. It opened up my eyes to all the possibilities within the field of finance for myself and those around me. Giving back in some way is how I'd like to live my life and working in a holistic environment, I believe, would be just the thing for me.

What do you intend to do with your degree after you graduate?

Become an analyst or a financial advisor, then return to get my master's 2-3 years after working.

Any advice for other Lubin students?

Follow your dreams, not the money. Loving what you do, especially in business is so much more important. Passion is what drives success and as long as you have a fire burning within you, you will be unstoppable! Don't be afraid to expand your horizons and dip into fields that are out of your comfort zone because they will only help shape you into a powerhouse.
