Academic and Professional Engagement Activities

Dr. Casey Frid studies strategy and entrepreneurship, and has published papers in top academic journals on topics ranging from collaborative strategies among firms to early stage venture creation. He teaches courses on Business Strategy and Entrepreneurship in the undergraduate program, as well as Entrepreneurship in the graduate program. He has been invited to speak on these topics at the Technical University (TU) of Munich, TU Darmstadt, Illinois State University, and the College of Charleston.

Dr. Frid's research focuses on the intersection of coopetition strategy, founder identity, and community. He has examined how a shared, collective identity among craft brewers shapes both collaborative and competitive actions, as well as how their individual role identities evolve over time. Dr. Frid also studies how social entrepreneurs engage their local community to create new markets in rural Brazil. In addition to these research activities, he regularly reviews for the Journal of Business Venturing and Small Business Economics; and he serves within the Academy of Management on the Entrepreneurship Division Research Committee.

Dr. Frid received his PhD (2011) and MBA (2006) from Clemson University and his bachelor's degree (1999) from Winona State University. Prior to his academic career, he worked with two startup companies in Juiz de Fora, Brazil. He also developed export strategies for the South Carolina Export Consortium; marketing strategies for a joint venture between LogicTree, Inc. and Telecom Egypt; and he assisted with data collection efforts for the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Economic Analysis in Washington, DC.
