Dr. Tobias Pret is an Assistant Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship whose research explores social entrepreneurship, creative industries and the role of context in entrepreneurial practices. He joined the Lubin School of Business in 2017, after living and working in Scotland, Costa Rica, Australia, and New Zealand for 12 years.
Dr. Pret's teaching interests include New Venture Creation, Small Business Management, and Creativity and Innovation. He regularly teaches courses in Business Strategy and Technology Innovation Management. While at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Dr. Pret was nominated by his students for university-wide teaching excellence awards in three consecutive years.
His research has been published in Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, International Small Business Journal, and International Journal of Management Reviews, among others. Additionally, his work on entrepreneurial ideation was recently awarded the Best Conference Paper Award at the Western Academy of Management (WAM) Conference in 2018.
Dr. Pret has served as an ad-hoc journal reviewer for Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice since 2019, Journal of Business Venturing and Journal of Rural Studies since 2018, and Entrepreneurship and Regional Development since 2017. He has also acted as a reviewer for the Academy of Management (AoM) Annual Meeting, WAM Conference, and Australian Centre for Entrepreneurship Research Exchange (ACERE) Conference, among others.
In 2018, Dr. Pret presented his research on embeddedness and entrepreneurial ideation at the AoM Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL, the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference (BCERC) in Waterford, Ireland, and the WAM Conference in Salt Lake City, UT.
