Mark your calendars, NYC students, because Student Development and Campus Activities (SDACA) NYC has packed more than 50 events into your month as part of their 2014 Welcome “Week” lineup.
Tuesday, September 2

Normally students hop on the bus for Convocation on the Westchester Campus, but this year Convocation will be held on both campuses. For more info, click here.

Y24, E319, Lecture Hall North…where the heck are your classes? Stop by the info desk for a class schedule tour, where people will be on-hand to guide you in the right direction.
Orientation Dance Off Championship 2014

Remember that summer orientation dance team that made 2014 Miley look like 2010 Miley? They’re going toe-to-toe at the Orientation Dance Off Championships for prizes and bragging rights.

SoHo Walking Tour

One of the shopping capitals of the world (not to mention one of the top spots for celebrity sightings) is just a 10-minute walk or five-minute subway ride from the NYC Campus. Explore SoHo by foot alongside other Pace students.
Welcome Back BBQ
The beginning of the semester is all about the meet and eat (or meet and meat, if you’re burger-friendly). Get to know some Pace students over a BBQ, with music, games, and more.
Neon Dance Party
9:00 p.m.–2:00 a.m. | Student Union
Here we glow again! Put on your hot pink headband and white jumpsuit and be the bright light in this big city as SDACA hosts the first party of the semester, a neon dance party featuring college club king DJ Zeke.
Friday, September 5
Central Park Walking Tour

843 acres of lakes and pools, gardens and meadows, theaters and playfields, a carousel and zoo, and much more. You’ll only find that in one place: Central Park. In less than two hours, you’ll see just a bit of it, but we’re sure you’ll be back for more.
LGBTQA Center Welcome Back
1:30 p.m.–3:00 p.m. | 41 Park Row, 9th Floor Lounge
Join Center staff, student leaders of Pace's LGBTQA student groups, and faculty to learn more about events, internship and volunteer opportunities, and to make new friends. Food and fun will be had.
Movie Screening: Life of Pi
7:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m. | $5
Relax with some popcorn and a Bengal tiger. SDACA hosts an outdoor walk-in movie night in the Frankfort Lot, featuring Ang Lee’s Academy Award-winning film Life of Pi, the epic journey of adventure and discovery of a young man named Pi who survives a disaster at sea and forms an unexpected connection with the boat’s other survivor: a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Plus, it’s this year’s common reading, so, you know, that.

Mid-move in and realize those bed sheets don’t fit…or you forgot a lamp? Don’t stress. If you’re in need of some cool dorm decorations, furniture, or even some Swedish meatballs and cinnamon buns, join SDACA as they hop on the water taxi for a trip over to the Scandinavian ready-to-assemble furniture giant, IKEA, in Brooklyn.

Pancake party, buttermilk bonanza, syrup soiree, flapjack fundae. No matter what you call it, it all means one thing: delicious pancakes to be consumed by you! Hang out with students at this Residence Hall Association-sponsored pancake and ice cream party.

Ice, ice baby. Vanilla Piña ice, ice baby. Whether you call it a kakigori, gola, piragua, or snow cone, the Office of Multicultural Affairs has plenty to help you take a cool break from the unpredictable heat. Flavors include tamarind, cherry, and chili-spiced mango.
LGBTQA Dean’s Reception

Get a tiny taste of Pace pride as the Dean for Students hosts a welcome reception for all students, where you can hear about resources available to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersexual, queer, and questioning students.

Rachel Vetterman ’22 transferred to Pace to pursue a combined degree: a BA in Childhood Education and an MSEd in Special Education. She’s passionate about supporting all the students she’s worked with, but it was one moment on the job that really changed her perspective.

Gabriela Wojcik ’21 is a first-gen American who transferred to Pace eager to explore all the opportunities her Communication Studies major offered. She’s the current vice president of Tau Sigma, and she hopes to guide other transfer students, too.

On Tuesday, October 20, Emmy Award-winning actor and political activist Richard Schiff will talk all things politics with Pace President Marvin Krislov. Schiff will also discuss his role in the hit drama series The West Wing, and how life often imitates art.
