Bridging the Gap

See some of the most talented college students in the Northeast show off their language and cultural skills at the Chinese Bridge competition on March 30 in NYC.
On Sunday, March 30, from 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Dyson's Confucius Institute and the New York Service Center for Chinese Study Fellows will host the 5th Annual Chinese Bridge East USA Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in the Schimmel Theatre. The theme for this year’s competition is the “Confucius Institute and Me,” in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institutes. Contestants will each deliver a speech in Mandarin, show off a Chinese culture-related talent, such as calligraphy or martial arts, and answer trivia about China.
The 24 contestants competing this year represent prestigious colleges and universities from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The contest is part of the annual “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition, a large-scale international contest that aims to persuade students in various countries to learn Chinese and strengthen the world's understanding of Chinese language and culture. The event is free and is open to the public.
For more information about the competition and attending, e-mail ci@pace.edu or call (212) 346-1880.
