Earth Month 2020

News Story

Dyson College is celebrating Earth Month by highlighting strategies you can take to help the environment right now—even as we social distance. Take a virtual tour of an art gallery, check out their book recs, and more ways to get involved.

This Earth Month, students and faculty at the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences are offering up seven actionable strategies you can implement right now to live more sustainably—even while practicing social distancing. From book recommendations curated by the Climate Change, Literature, and Slow Violence (LI 296C) course required reading list to considerations for your carbon footprint to DIY Pinterest-inspired tips, you’ll be well on your way to celebrating Earth Month in style!

Here are a few of our favorite quotes from the list:

  • >> “Pick one issue you’d like to see change in and educate yourself about the policies surrounding it.”—Anne Toomey, PhD, assistant professor in the Environmental Studies and Science Department

  • >> “Living a minimalist lifestyle where we recognize and work to stop the consumption of materials can result in a huge reduction of emissions.”—Thomas Carpenito ’21, Environmental Science, helped found the Pace Sustainability Initiative

  • >> “It’s mind boggling that policy is so broken still; we need the story-tellers to explain what is really happening.”—Professor Erica Johnson, PhD, chair of the English department on the New York City Campus

Also be sure to check out the recent Digestive Systems art exhibit unveiled earlier in the semester. It’s gone fully virtual for a unique viewing experience!
