Comics and Culture Panel (NYC)

The Pace University Press, the University's academic press that publishes scholarly journals and books in the humanities and social sciences, is presenting a panel and discussion about comics! Come take part in a stimulating conversation about the industry, its influence on literature and popular culture, and how this applies to academic studies. The theme will highlight the intersection of comics and education, the language of comics, and the use of comics in the classroom.
Panel guests include cartoonist Mark Newgarden (Cartoon Network), editor Joan Hilty (Nickelodeon, DC Comics), comics artist Klaus Janson (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns), and writer and illustrator Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman, X-Men). Paul Levitz, former president and publisher of DC Comics, will moderate the discussion.

Pace Makes a Difference Day (PLV)

SDCA is joining forces with local community groups and organizations to host Pace Makes a Difference Day. Faculty, staff, and students will have the chance to perform a range of community outreach activities—from beautification projects, to mentoring younger students, to running book drives—with the aim of fostering a spirit of community activism and togetherness throughout the greater Westchester area.

Exclusive Book Talk and Signing with David Blight (NYC)

On Friday, October 19, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History will host an exclusive book talk and signing with Professor David Blight, an award-winning historian and director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition and Yale University.
Professor Blight will discuss his new book Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom, the dramatic biography of one of the most important individuals in American history.
One Day Immersion Conference (NYC)

Registration is now open for Lubin’s annual One Day Immersion (ODI) Conference in Media, Entertainment for currently matriculated students, faculty, and recent graduates. The theme of this year’s conference is “navigating disruption,” and will be highlighted by an in-depth keynote discussion with Judy McGrath. McGrath serves as a senior advisor to Astronauts Wanted, a multimedia joint venture she formed with Sony Music Entertainment, and served as president from June 2013 to March 2018. Prior to that, she served as chair and CEO of MTV Networks from July 2004 until May 2011.
ODI connects the industry’s smartest and most influential media and technology executives with students and recent graduates,offers unparalleled networking opportunities, and the chance to learn about internships and job prospects. Admission is free for all currently-enrolled college students, faculty, and recent graduates.
