Faculty Institute 2016
This year, the institute will examine literacies across the disciplines and how the creation of a collaborative student community can unify Pace’s diverse campus.
The fifteenth annual Faculty Institute will take place May 17–18, 2016, on the Pleasantville Campus. This year’s institute will examine literacies across the disciplines and how the creation of a collaborative student community capable of effective communications can contribute to unifying our diverse campus population. Specifically, the institute will look at writing across the curriculum, oral communications, critical reading, information, and technical literacies. When combined, these multiple approaches to learning are relevant in all academic disciplines and throughout a student's undergraduate education. We will also seek to explore how literacy competence can foster collaborations and bonds among professors, students, and support services (i.e., writing centers, libraries).
This year’s keynote speaker will be James P. Purdy, associate professor of English/Writing Studies and director of the University Writing Center at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Purdy's research examines digital research and writing practices for scholars at all levels. He has been published in College Composition and Communication, Computers and Composition, Computers and Composition Online, First Monday, The Journal of Literacy and Technology, Kairos, Pedagogy, and Profession, as well as in several edited collections.
