ITS Updates: Fall 2020
ITS shares some important information pertaining to this unique fall semester. Stay informed and connected!
A Note From ITS
Welcome back to the fall 2020 semester! This will surely be a semester like no other. The past several months has been challenging for so many of us. Through it all, ITS has continued to work with other University areas to assess current system needs and make the changes and upgrades needed to continue to support the Pace Community. Our top concern has been everyone's health and safety while maintaining a sustainable teaching, working, and learning environment.
To that end, we have implemented new temporary physical space and social distancing protocols in our front-facing facilities, in accordance with University guidance. However, we have implemented additional computing access and service delivery options, where possible, to ensure their continued availability to the Pace Community.
We have brought in new equipment (Zoom Stations) that allows courses to be taught both as in-person and remotely at the same time in the HyFlex format. This allows students to attend their class on a rotation basis (in-person or remote), which makes it possible to meet teaching/learning requirements, while maintaining a safer low capacity in the physical classrooms. To support faculty using these Zoom Stations, we have conducted a number of training sessions and will be announcing additional upcoming dates.
We continue to update our working-remotely website for students, faculty, and staff to ensure that everyone has the timely information and instructions needed to successfully accomplish their objectives.
As a reminder, we are also available via the Help Desk contact channels to assist with individual issues you may be having with any of our Pace systems.
Be well, and stay healthy and safe!
New Zoom Stations for Hyflex Teaching
In order to satisfy social distancing requirements for the fall semester, ITS implemented a new mode of instruction named the HyFlex model. In this mode, courses are delivered both in person and remotely at the same time by the same faculty member. Select classrooms on campus have been outfitted with a "Zoom Station" that will allow some students to connect to the class remotely via Zoom, while other students attend the same class in person. Thus, the faculty member can split a class and teach to both groups at the same time. This model maximizes the potential for students to participate in a face-to-face course experience while adhering to the guidelines of social distancing.
A website was also created to help support this new initiative. There, you can find more information, as well as a list of Hyflex classrooms, available training (for faculty), plus other frequently asked questions about the new Hyflex model.
