News Story

The Associated Press is offering a unique (and paid!) opportunity to work with their team during the 2020 General Election. Training starts Monday, October 19, so apply now!

The Associated Press (AP) is looking for college students to assist with election night tabulation of the upcoming 2020 US General Election. It is a paid opportunity. You will work remotely and need a Windows 10 or MAC computer. Paid training will occur during the last weeks of October for the Tuesday, November 3, election. Starting with the week of Monday, October 19, you will need to block out sufficient time, for which you will be paid, to:

  • >> Join an initial two-hour training session offered the week of October 19-24;
  • >> Join a follow-up two-hour training offered October 26-30;
  • >> On Saturday, October 31, AP holds a national rehearsal from approximately 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; and
  • >> On Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, the start time will vary (earliest in around 4 p.m.).

After election day, there will be opportunities for work during normal business hours (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) as we verify the election results. The exact time frame for this is not yet known.

The rate of pay is $15 per hour. We will pay four hours to cover the time required to connect to the AP system and for independent learning using the training materials we send you. Training will be paid based on hours worked.  Payment for other times will be based on hours worked.

Interested? Please read through all the available information thoroughly, which includes details on what equipment you will need, and then email Beth Bay to apply.
