Making the Most of Your First Week at Pace
We're here to help you take the fear out of your first week at college! Follow our five tips for making the most of your first week at Pace.
1. Say hello to everyone.
The first week of college can be stressful for everyone. One of the easiest ways to make a connection is to simply be a friendly face! Nod, wave, or even a simple “Hey!” can go a long way toward making connections in your new community. Be sure to introduce yourself to your RA if you’re living on campus, too. You’ll make lifelong friends in a snap!
2. Find your classrooms ahead of time.
Imagine: it’s the first day of class and you’re late! Now you’ve got to open the closed door, walk in, interrupt your professor, and hope you can find a seat without anyone staring at you. Avoid the stress by figuring out where your classrooms are way in advance. (Your professors will notice if you’re always on time.)
3. Get familiar with your campus.
Grab a friend and go for a stroll around campus to get the lay of the land. You’ll need to know the location of Pace’s security office, the ID office, the Office of Student Assistance, the library, and the University Health Care office. While you’re at it, note all the cool snack spots—there are a few open 24/7!
4. Attend all the welcome events.
Tie-dye parties, karaoke, hiking, free food, movie nights, mixers, socials, and more! The first few weeks on campus will keep you busy—and not just with reading assignments. This is your opportunity to meet new people, join clubs, and have fun! Be sure to keep an eye on The Pulse for weekly updates on all the latest events.
5. Get some sleep.
Put down the salted caramel cold brew. It may be tasty, but the average person over age 18 needs at least 7 hours of sleep per night—and you want to be sharp for that 8:00 a.m. morning class. Get a good night’s sleep and you’ll actually retain the reading from the night before. Trust us.
