PPA Presents The Drowsy Chaperone (NYC)

News Story

PPA is cookin’ up an incredible production: add one jazzy wedding, one desperate theater producer, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, one tipsy chaperone, and you have yourself a recipe for a great time.

Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a true love letter to the Jazz Age musical, with a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison.

It follows our narrator, a man in a chair, as he listens to his favorite record, the original cast recording of a fictitious 1928 Broadway musical called The Drowsy Chaperone. The recording comes to life as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theater producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, and a tipsy chaperone, and you have yourself a delightful, self-referential, madcap evening of musical theater.

You won’t want to miss this incredible performance!
