Real Girls, Real Funny (NYC)

News Story

On December 7, the Pforzheimer Honors College and the School of Performing Arts are teaming up to bring you a night of real talk about the myths of the so-called “Good Girl” and her place in comedy.

We have all seen it on TV and in movies, in millions of ways where being “the Good Girl” always wins and is always rewarded. It means playing it safe, doing it right, getting it perfect, and pleasing everyone around. Real talk: who is this girl anyway?

On Monday, December 7, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Lecture Hall West, the Pforzheimer Honors College and Pace School of Performing Arts bring you an informative and inspired talk by Adjunct Professor, Groundlings alumna, and Improvolution founder Holly Mandel, who will explain and explore the origins and implications of “the Good Girl” and why we need to move beyond her. She may appear to be “good,” but for women who want to make a mark in comedy, acting, or as leaders in any field to “Good Girl” in us all is perhaps our worst enemy.
