Setter Stories

Pace Athletics is celebrating a few incredible student-athlete stories from the past year. From growing up on a Native American reservation to traveling from Serbia to being deployed to Afghanistan twice, our students truly have the Setter spirit.
To celebrate National Student-Athlete Day this year, Pace Athletics has been reliving some of their stellar Setter Stories of 2020 over on Twitter. In case you missed it, here are some of the highlights:
“Some of them don’t really understand that you have to wait for a foul ball to get hit to you before you can give it away. So they’ll be kids that come up to you every half inning or so asking ‘Can I get a ball? Is there a ball yet?’ [...] Those are always the cutest moments.”
—Raechelle Seil ’22, Pace Softball, on her experience being a Mariners ball girl
“The longer I’ve been here, the more people find out whether it’s through social media or something [else]. I have things that I do like go to pow wows or other things like that. [People] see me at these kinds of gatherings and they’ll comment and either support it or ask questions.”
—Phyll Thomas ’20, Pace Football, on his Native American roots
“I think the most enjoyable part about being a part of the swim team is the camaraderie. It’s something that I miss from the military, and it’s kind of nice. Even from day one, I came in, I introduced myself [...] and everyone was very nice.”
—Alex Adams ’22, Pace Swimming and Diving, on being deployed twice to Afghanistan
“I’m so happy I came here. [...] I think my swim team is like my family. If it weren’t for them, I don’t want to say that I wouldn’t know if it would be worth it, but they’ve definitely made this place like home.”
—Jana Ciric ’20, Pace Swimming and Diving, on her journey from Serbia to Pace
