Dear Pace Community,
The issue of sexual assault on college campuses continues to be one of national concern. Protecting our students, faculty, and staff and ensuring a safe campus community are among the University's highest priorities. Pace is committed to preventing sexual assault within our University and responding promptly and appropriately when incidents occur.
Over the past several months, many in the Pace Community--students, faculty, staff--have worked collaboratively to ensure that Pace successfully addresses this most critical issue by assessing definitions, updating the campus-wide sexual assault policy, reviewing response procedures, and developing resources to promote awareness of sexual assault prevention and response.
Outside legal counsel has conducted an independent review of the updated policy, response procedures, and awareness efforts to certify that Pace is in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and that we are adhering to the best practices possible.
These combined efforts have resulted in a policy that is unique to Pace and reflective of the Pace culture. Since launching the policy and compliance review, several important objectives have been achieved:
- >>Updated Sex-Based Misconduct Policy and Procedure
Approved by the Board of Trustees on March 11, 2015
- >>Revised Definition of Consent
- >>Sexual Assault Resources Website
A dedicated website that centralizes sexual assault awareness information including:
- Myths and facts
- Resources and services for victims
- >>Guide to Options, Resources, and Support
A new brochure will be available in residence halls, campus health centers, Dean for Students' offices, and other campus common areas.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the University has designated Sunday, April 19 to Saturday, April 25 as Sexual Assault Awareness Week. Please visit the new website, www.pace.edu/sexual-assault, for featured events taking place during the entire month.
Ensuring the highest level of safety and support for our students, faculty, and staff is a vital commitment that requires continuous, ongoing effort. In the months ahead, we will build on these achievements by implementing additional measures to continue to ensure a safe and supportive environment at Pace University.
We would like to gratefully acknowledge the students, staff, and faculty who have worked so hard these past months. We thank them for their efforts and team work in accomplishing these important initiatives.
