Westchester Lawyer Magazine featured Haub Law Professor Lissa Griffin piece "Criminal Justice Reform in New York State"

In April 2019, the New York legislature passed an historic criminal justice reform package. Major changes included limiting judicial discretion to set cash bail, broadening and accelerating discovery, and strengthening the right to a speedy trial. With respect to bail, the new law bars judges in most cases from imposing cash bail except for violent felonies, effectively reversing the long-standing practice of keeping presumptively innocent people in jail for minor crimes simply because they could not afford to post cash bail for their release.
