"Forbes" featured Pace University in "Colleges See GIS Playing A Larger Role in Business Education"
...Recognizing the power of a modern GIS to reveal real-time insight or global trends on easy-to-understand maps and visualizations, the University of California Riverside, University of Wisconsin-Stout, Murray State University, and Pace University also have initiated GIS courses in their curricula. They see the importance of GIS rising, especially as the Internet of Things continues to expand, sending out streams of data that can be used for business decisions.
Those with GIS skills within their data and business analysis capabilities are finding themselves at the center of vital discussions about the direction and operations of their companies. In fact, more than 65 percent of businesses consider location intelligence critical or very important to revenue growth, according to a survey by Dresner Advisory Services.
Yet the training needed to produce that intelligence often seems like an afterthought. Less than 10 percent of business school programs provide any formal introduction to GIS in their courses. That situation, however, is changing.
